Oops, when I wrote that I forgot there were ladies on this board. So much for me ever getting another appointment.:(

Hehehehehe I'm only tormenting ya.

I feel for ya. You can cook me a nice dinner, but I'd prefer a fart machine over the real rumbles... ok?

If we are both wrong, can you give me the correct answer?

If you think there is MONEY in trucks go too your banker and ask what is the hardest thing to borrow money for .. You will need your house on the line ATLEAST ..I used too work for CBM cement and they did the cement block buisness .. They had there own trucks and hired drivers , There was so much money in the trucking they had the drivers buy their own trucks and CBM paid them by the mile ,, They lost the trucks ....
When you are a Company driver you get paid from the time you leave your plant till you return ,, Independent drivers get paid when they are driving down the road .. Loading time ect is not paid .. waiting for someone to get off lunch to unload you is not paid ect .
That is why Independents have too work 12 hour days ..
You blow a motor in your car you are looking at a couple thousand to get back on the road .. 10.000 to replace a big truck motor . as said before there is no REAL money in trucking .. You make good money when you work but the cost is so much to keep going it is simply not worth it .

Do any of you clowns have any idea how expensive it is to own/operate a dump truck?

Lease/Financing payments
Licensing fees
Fuel
Maintenance

I have an AZ lience and I work IN the plant .. I do not want too even drive a company truck and put up with the asses on the road that think I can stop a truck in a heartbeat .. O ya :: I forgot I got AIR BRAKES LOL
This is one another note but I think if people that drive cars spent JUST ONE day in the cab of a big truck and seen the shit that happens with being cut off ect and people doing stupid stuff they may see the world from the trucker's side real QUICK

Some people won't be happy until everyone else is working for survival wages. That way costs are kept down and their own dollar goes as far as possible. These people don't want to know the real facts about cost of fuel, maintenance, financing, brutal working conditions. They just want to whine about $75 an hour for a semi-skilled job that requires no education. These same people automatically object if anything inconveniences them, such as a protest drive that temporarily slows traffic. That is because for these people, the world must revolve around them and their needs. Anybody else's needs are immaterial and irrelevant. Thank you to those posters who offered information about the real costs and working conditions that these drivers face.

In a very dark place
Something that has not been mentioned is the safety of some of these trucks. In York region the coppers and MTO do surprise inspection set ups.

the last two they did resulted in 33% and 27% of the trucks checked being removed from the road on the spot with plates taken.

Think about that when you are stopped in traffic and a fully loaded tandem is closing on you.

I had my articulate/air license when I drove a transport one summer job years ago.

Many was the time I wished I could just run over some idiot that cut me off.
