I was out driving on the streets of our city over the past ten days or so.
Here is what happened.

I was at a point where several turns and lane changes were necessary in a short period of time.

Lane change. No signal.
Second lane change. No signal.
Left turn. No signal.
Right turn. No signal.
Another lane change. No signal.
And another left turn. You guessed it, no signal.

This is typical of driving in Brampton. I had no idea that turn indicators were optional on today's vehicles.

OH ! ga-damn. There is a misunderstanding and it is my fault.

I saved this part(below) on my computer 'notepad' yesterday, then I was rushed when I wanted to complete it earlier today.

Lane change. No signal.
Second lane change. No signal.
Left turn. No signal.
Right turn. No signal.
Another lane change. No signal.
And another left turn. You guessed it, no signal.
I was behind the car that made the above lane changes. It was a police car in a non emergency situation. The reason I point it out is if I had done that in front of him he would likely have pulled me over and given me a ticket.
This happened last Tuesday and the reason I posted it today is because I had another police car do similar lane changes on Monday of this week. This time it was one of those marked cars, but with that shade covering.
Besides police, there are some stupid drivers out there. I am sure you/we see them every day ... just as long as we do not 'meet' them I guess no harm done.

More than just a minor detail to exclude. It is central to your tale.

I think Toronto drivers are fast becoming the rudest anywhere! Go to Edmonton and you will be in shock how polite everyone is.

Drivers in Edmonton are polite because it's currently the murder capital of Canada and they're afraid the other driver may kill them!

Try driving in NYC.

Drive in Montreal for a day or two and Toronto will look like a swan ride.
Been there, done that. Montreal is just out of control. It is stupid.

I was in Raleigh, NC. Talk about polite drivers. I was let in from driveways and lane changes more in one week then two months here in TO. One guy even gave a parking spot at RBC Center when we arrived at approximately the same time.

In my experience, officers more often than not obey signalling laws. They aren't so good at the other rules of the road though: rolling stops, speeding, etc.

I figure truckers are the best at following the rules, and cabbies the worst. Everyone else falls somewhere in between.

I was going to start a new thread, but remembered that it is sometimes frowned upon when there is already a thread of the same or similarly titled.

I was driving in the curb lane this morning and the driver in front of me put on the brakes as she approached a green light. Two or three seconds later the light turned amber, then of course red. She obviously saw the hand signal count down getting near zero. Both she and I could have easily and safely made it through the intersection(where there is no opinion for a right turn) if she had just kept going.
Approximately three or four cars in both the other two lanes continued on through.

My question/rant/whatever is was she being overly safe to the point where it comes full circle and is dangerous ?

Certainly it was being overcautious to a fault. If she can't accurately predict how much time it would take for herself to cross an intersection safely, what else is she incapable of doing on the road? Coming to a stop on the road at a green light is dangerous because it is unexpected to other drivers around her. I personally love the hand signal count down as it allows for less dramatic braking than solely an amber light, but this women seems to have overreacted to it.

Everytime I drive through Toronto I start to think the big name genocide folks had the right idea. Rarely get that level of rage in Montreal. The roads in Montreal are one thing but the drivers, not so much a problem.

As for signaling you always singnal a lane change. That lets the person in the lane you want to go into to speed up so he can block you. Tis the polite thing to do.
