Let's be honest about the UFC card. Besides Anderson Silva, who else would you pay to watch? They even have TUF rejects fighting.....get real.

There also seem to be plenty of UFC rejects on the Affliction card. What channel is Affliction on? The undercard on Fight Network, but main fights on PPV? On ExpressVu?

They even brought back Jesse Taylor...

In the last episode of The Ultimate Fighter, Jesse "Piss-in-his-Pants" Taylor was supposedly kicked out of the UFC for good...
But they brought him back...

Manji, I'm curious to know how you feel about this parlay. All of my picks had high juice so I thought I'd make a $500 parlay. I'm feeling fairly comfortable with these picks but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I don't have any leans for the Dream card but I'm expecting a great show from them. Enjoy the fights bro!

Fedor Emelianenko
Josh Barnett
Andrei Arlovski
Matt Lindland

3 of those selections should win. My only concern is with Arlovski. I haven't seen him fight in a while and not sure what to expect. I also have concern regarding his chin.

If I were to bet those would be my picks as well...

Fedor vs Sylvia: Fedor will prove to be just too much for Sylvia...Too fast, too explosive, too versatile and too smart...

Barnett vs Rizzo: Rizzo's too old and I think Barnett will handle him...Barnett has been fighting consistently and with top ranked talent unlike Rizzo...

Lindland vs Negao:
Lindland's world class wrestling should make the difference in that fight - probably be a boring fight...

Arlvoski vs Rothwell: Arlvoski will prove to be too much for Ben Rothwell....Arlvoski is more well rounded and has more experience fighting top talent (Arlovski is still ranked top ten Heavyweight)..Rothwell is a heavy hitter so Arlvoski's got to be careful and not underestimate the Militech Fighter (Militech guys tend to go in with good game plans and great conditioning so hopefully Arlvoski has trained hard for this fight)

Of course, this if MMA so anything can happen...And the Heavyweight's especially have a Puncher's chance...

On paper Banned Affliction shouldn't have any real surprises unlike the Dream Lightweight Tournament...

Dream LW Tournament
is anybody's guess....
Out of the 4, I think Caol Uno has the smallest chance of winning but who knows...Kawajiri and Alvarez will most likely be a war so if Uno does beat Aoki; he might be able to beat the Alvarez or Kawajiri in the Final...

I think Dream 5 will produce another contender for fight of the Year...They already have 2 in my opinion:

The Alvarez/Hansen fight and Tokoro/Uyenoyama fight...
Awesome fights...If you haven't seen it...Catch it on Dailymotion or I'll post them up later...

Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate it.

LOL, feeling much better about my picks now.

I actually missed the first Dream, but I was able to download it. I was hooked after watching Dream 2. And I love the production value - reminds me of Pride.

I may actually add two CFL plays to the parlay (Calgary and BC) and if I do that I may take Arlovski out.

They did not say he was kicked out for good, Dana said to get his act together, and then he could come back.

Still sounds like a desperate move to get ratings....
The last TUF ended only a few months ago...I doubt Taylor really got his shit totally straightened out...

If White wasn't so desperate for fighters for this Ultimate Fight Night, Taylor wouldn't be in the UFC this soon...

On a kind of related note, Anderson's opponent Irvin claimed that the UFC had asked half a dozen LightHeavyweights to fight the Spider...They all said no and Irvin was the next in line...

Irvin didn't say who the other six or LHW were...Anybody want to hazard a guess?

Hermes Franca. :)
Yes he was suspended for drug use but he was doing really well before then, big win streak and out of his 6 losses 5 were decision (2split) and against some really tough fighters.
I agree it's not a great card but I'd pay to see Francas return, I like the lightweights and he was one of the best before his suspension. I'm interested to see how he does when he returns.

As far as the Affliction fights, I'm looking forward to pretty much the entire card. Like most everyone else I'm picking Fedor but I always pick Tim to lose. I'm just not a fan of his and never give him enough credit, I really think Fedor is the better fighter but Tim consistantly proved people wrong. I did put my $ on Fedor but it's a friendly bet... either way I'm sure I'll get to drink some of the beer. ;-)

I'm, even though I probably won't be able to watch it live. But to be honest I'm more excited for the Affliction card. I've been dying to watch Fedor fight again. However, I think the Dream card will have much more exciting match-ups. Either way I think this weekend is God's gift to MMA fans.

BTW, not sure if you guys know this or not but Fedor and Sylvia will be fighting to crown the first ever World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts. Here is their site if you wanna check it out http://www.gowamma.com/.

Bad fucking luck that affects both Affliction Banned and Dream 5... and terrbile news for MMA fans....

Aleksander Emelianko is out for Affliction and Yamamoto Kid is out of Dream 5....

Kid Yamamoto Out:

A difficult situation may have become a full-out nightmare for Dream.

The promotion’s July 21 card at Osaka Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan, has been hit with a host of injuries. Now Dream parent company Fighting and Entertainment Group has announced that Japanese superstar Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto (Pictures) has withdrawn from his bout against Joseph Benavidez (Pictures) due to a knee injury.

Yamamoto could be facing six months on the shelf. He told the Japanese media that while sparring on Thursday, he attempted a flying knee, landed awkwardly on his right leg and heard his knee pop. After icing his knee throughout the night, Yamamoto went to the hospital this morning for X-rays and an MRI.

The 31-year-old firebrand was diagnosed with a partial tear of his right anterior cruciate ligament. Yamamoto said that follow-up would be necessary to determine whether he needs surgery, but that he ardently hopes to not have to go under the knife.

This is not his first high-profile injury. Following his brief departure from MMA to pursue a freestyle wrestling bid for the forthcoming Beijing Olympic Games, Yamamoto suffered a dislocated right elbow during a match with 2004 Athens Games bronze medalist Kenji Inoue at the Emperor's Cup in January 2007.

To add insult to injury, Yamamoto's reputation could be in for a bruising. In the forthcoming issue of infamous Japanese tabloid Shukan Gendai -- best known to MMA fans for investigative assaults on Pride, Pride parent company Dream Stage Entertainment and alleged organized crime affiliations -- a feature story alleges that Yamamoto is an active user of marijuana.

Although such an allegation may not seem particularly hurtful from a Western perspective, marijuana is extremely socially stigmatized in Japan. Under Japan's Cannabis Control Law, simple possession of marijuana alone can result in a five-year prison sentence.

As for Benavidez, Dream event producer Keiichi Sasahara said that the promotion is looking for a replacement opponent and hopes to keep the undefeated protégé of Urijah Faber (Pictures) on the injury-plagued card.

On Wednesday, featherweight standout Hideo Tokoro (Pictures) was involved in a rear-end collision and suffered a mild waist and back injury that has cast his Monday bout with Takeshi Yamazaki (Pictures) into limbo. Previously, Mirko Filipovic (Pictures) and Jerome LeBanner (Pictures) were both nixed from the card due to injuries.

Aleksander Emelianko Out:

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Don’t let the headline scare you. It’s not that Emelianenko.

The main event for Affliction’s debut Saturday, pitting former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures) (27-1-0) against former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia (Pictures) (26-5-0), is set.

However, Aleksander Emelianenko (Pictures) was denied licensure by the California State Athletic Commission, thus forcing him out of his bout with Paul Buentello (Pictures).

Promoter Roy Englebrecht echoed the statement of CSAC representative Bill Douglas at Friday’s weigh-ins, saying that Emelianenko “did not meet his licensing requirements.”

CSAC Executive Officer Armando Garcia told Sherdog.com that he has approved Gary Goodridge (Pictures) as a replacement for the Russian against Buentello. Englebrecht said Goodridge was already in California, licensed and expecting to fight in San Diego this weekend on a card that was cancelled.

Justin Levens (Pictures) missed the 187-pound catch-weight for his fight with Ray Lazama, but the CSAC approved the bout. Part of Levens’ purse will go to Lazama.

Hey guys, need some urgent information about Affliction Banned. A few buddies and I are planning to watch that PPV, and we have been looking forward to it for a while now. However, the only place that shows it according to the website is at Diesel Playhouse, and it's sold out (I'm new to Toronto, so I initially thought that place was a bar or something like that).

Can anyone please let me know if any other place in Toronto, Richmond Hill or Markham is showing Affliction Banned. I really don't want to miss it. I don't have a TV at home so ordering it is out of the question. Thank you for any suggestions.

Right when the fight begin, I poured myself a nice glass of beer to watch this main event with. Before I even finish pouring, the fight was over.

Fedor is not human.
