So I managed to catch the fights in a bar in downtown. Affliction didn't do a great job in promoting, and not too many bars I've called were showing it. Nevertheless, I found one and it was a great night.
Affliction started off a bit slow, and the production wasn't top notch (too dark, too quiet, and awkward pauses). What is the deal with Megadeth, they were relevant in the last century. The fight picked up with a slick submission by Mark Homnick. Good to see Barnett and Arlovski fight, and they were pretty impressive. They should fight next to see who fights Fedor, even though I think either would be a better match up for Fedor than Randy, but business is business.
Had a great chance to introduce Fedor and his overall awesomeness to my friends, but he disappointed me, in a good way. 36 seconds was damn quick. I remember him saying after the hand injury that he wants to finish fight ASAP, and I guess he's a man/machine of his words. Tim Sylvia is no pushover, and was ranked 4th in HW. This just shows that Fedor is still good, and comes in with a great game plan and executed it perfectly. I hope he fights the worthy contenders, stay focused, and wins (he's a true athlete of the sport, and a good face for MMA).
UFN was alright, the things that impressed me were Dolloway's Peruvian necktie, that crazy kick by Markham, and of course Anderson Silva. The rest were average to boring (Vera's dry humping of Reese). Irvin made a mistake to strike from the outside with the Spider instead of clinching with him (didn't he say his clinch is better than anyone Silva's faced?). Rampage better take notes in prison, because that's how you turn your opponents' leg kicks into weapons against themselves.
I didn't get a chance to see DREAM 5, and I would have thought Aoki would've taken it. Brutal payback by Hansen for that Gogoplata 2 years ago. This shows Aoki is still rather one dimensional, and does not have the standup game that the elite lightweights have (e.g. Penn). He's still young, and with a good standup I think he can challenge Penn for world's best LW.
