Male powerless should have been discribe in something other then sexual desire in my opinion. He lost his argument with me right there. Sex is not a male right. You want to show male powerlessness - do so without sex. The problem with male dominance is the use of power and sex. It fucks with women. It fucks with beta men and that is something that needs to stop. Period. So he lost me there.
The glint in the fathers eye bit - I get the point trying to be made and I hope that is makes some appreciate the male worker role. I know I do. Women think because they see Reno shows, they know how to retire a bathroom. Well sure you know on paper but it is a whole other thing to actually do it. And do it right. It takes education, attention to detail, physical labour, dealing with chemicals (I got grout burn for example). It is not as easy as it “appears”. So I hope the example made people think.
BUT…. The same could be said about women. AND women gave up the glint and the money. Because they didn’t become the doctor or nurse or accountant or poet so they could stay home and take care of the kids. So while he works a job he doesn’t want to support the family he makes bank, she works a job (raising kids is full time work) and makes nothing. So that is why it is conserved male power and Privilege. Because it gained him power and privilege. Just like women get the kids in the divorce, because they were the primary ones caring for them the whole marriage.
I see he is trying but he is failing in his examples because it still comes from the wrong place. At least that is how I see it.
But it does show that men are told to go work and women are told to bare the kids and when it works that partnership can really make a difference for all involved. They contribute equally. But when it fails, one has to compensate for the inequity if one happens. Sadly that is often the women needing financial support.
