Damn, I must really be old. The first strip joint I remember in this area was a little place on King Street in downtown Waterloo - I think it was called Le Petit Theatre or something like that. There was just a small stage for the peelers. No table dancing. No lap dancing. They didn't even have a liquor license so you couldn't even get a drink.

Wasn't that the Heuther Hotel? I never saw dancers there but apparently they did that at one time. Knew a guy who rented a room upstairs there when he went to university. Pretty low rent, in every sense of the phrase.

I used to work at the Coronet and had the pleasure of sharing a pizza with Ray Sawyer of Dr Hook & the Medicine Show after they had played in the hotel that night. Other memorable highlights Midge Micheals stripper feature who sucked a glass of water into her pussy using a straw and would, walk around not spilling a drop. Her famous line was "Boys if its not water tight, it is not tight" Also Loni Salami and Anna Banana both had incredible deep throat shows. The strip scene just isn't the same but the back room scene has vastly improved.

This is the primary reason the city bought the Doll House property and knocked it down - the crazy 30 minute wait at 5:00pm everyday coming from the comerical area just east of this intersection trying to get across the bridge and on their way home is now reduced, even gone on most days thanks to the round about.
The primary reason the Doll House is gone was Kitchener city council's dislike of strip clubs. They also bought up the East End Tavern (the bastards, I loved the Tavern :( ) and turned it into a lame Farmer's Market. The city went so far as to pay $800,000 more for the Doll House property than it was worth. The owner, who surely laughed all the way to the bank, has now set up a new business - Chicago, a pool hall/dining place in Alpine place close to Strasburg and Ottawa.

No, Le Petit was located down the street (south, if you follow Waterloo's labelling of King Street), close to Waterloo Square but on the opposite side. This would have been in 1970, I believe. I am not sure how long it was around but, if memory serves, the place burned down. Perhaps that is how the owners recouped some of their investment - lol.

The city council's attitude is particularly surprising given the city's penchant for hosting erotic events for women at both the Cunter in the Square and at Queensmount arena. Perhaps it is an indication of the sexual orientation of our "city fathers".

It wasn't the City of Kitchener that bought the Doll House. It was the Region of Waterloo. It was all about building a roundabout.

Not sure if thats place that Justice remembered cuz the Heuther did always have a liquor license. But yes the Heuther had strippers for sure and a small stage. I used to play in a band that played downstairs at the Huether on occassion and it was the same "mirror" stage. Had to move the damn swing set out of the way to not get hit in the head with it. LOL
