So these were just a few coyotes creating the mess? I though there were a bunch of them. How did they kill them? I hope a few bullets rather than thousands of dollars in complicated ways
I hope they didn't spend too much money on it, cause I would have done it for free :D

Thats wild. I always did see way more coyotes and foxes in the city though.

I can hear them close to my house almost everynight but they stay to themselves and they stay hidden.

I'll never forget seeing one run down the main street of Cobourg at an intersection there and for a while there it looked like it was obeying traffic laws 😂 scary though. We all jumped in the car and rolled up the windows. I think a lady was followed by one or two a few days later while she was walking her dog.

I have a little snack of a dog and so far so good. They stay away from the house. Even the Fischer I saw last year has better things to do than come around the house.

Poor puppy 😢 The Coyotes have less food this time of the year, so they'll grab anything.

A woman who lost her dog to a coyote is hoping other residents can learn from her traumatic experience, especially given there seem to be more interactions with coyotes in Toronto.

“My back was turned. I turned, and she was right there. And the coyote just came out of nowhere and just picked her up and grabbed her and took off,” said Susan Seeley. “There was one little yelp, and then they were gone.”

Seeley says the experience in a Scarborough park on Glen Everest Road has left her mourning the loss of her six-year-old shih-tzu, but also hopes that sharing her story will prevent future incidents.

“There’s a lot of coyotes around. People need to be warned about this area. It’s my mistake … I should have them on leash,” shared Seeley. “You have to keep your dogs on leash. Because of these coyotes, you never know; it just happens in one second.”

Other coyote attacks have been reported across the GTA over the past year, including recently in Liberty Village.

The City of Toronto says they are working to spread information and will be considering recommendations for updating the city’s coyote strategy later this year.

“It’s something that the city takes very seriously. Public safety is our number one priority. When you remove coyotes from a specific area, all that happens is other coyotes move in. So it’s almost impossible to clear an area of coyotes,” said a city spokesperson.

The City says you may see coyotes more at this time of year because of a lack of foliage, less natural food supply, and breeding. While they are mostly seen at night, daytime encounters are not rare.

One was even spotted in the park where CityNews was on Tuesday.

A woman walking with her dog in the park when the coyote was spotted said area residents need to be vigilant.

“I was actually pretty scared, but it’s a difficult choice because they are animals, and they do live in the same space, but if they do start to become more aggressive, then that’s what I would want the city to take some action in that case,” said the woman who asked not to be identified.

The City wants to remind residents that it is the law to have their dogs on a leash and to not feed wild animals.

There is currently a request for study from Toronto’s city council with the intent to update the city’s official coyote strategy, but that won’t be submitted until towards the end of 2025.

I for one welcome our coyote overlords! They take care of the exploding fucking raccoon infestation in my area! You know... the little fuckers who destroy yards, garbage, and shit everywhere. Oh yeah... and their shit is toxic. Woo hoo. "But the babies are so gosh darn CUTE!". I was leaving work super late years ago and watched two coyotes (watched from my parked car mind you) stalk and ambush a huge raccoon. It was mesmerizing watching them hunt as a team. They're beautiful animals and yes, to the earlier poster, there are a lot of dumb fucks in the gta who STILL FEED them. Hence they come closer. In my area they stay in the wooded parts. But in my area there are also hawks, foxes, owls and other predators, along with a deer and tons of rabbits! This is all in midtown Toronto. There's more wildlife here than at the zoo!

There are also a lot of missing cat posters, so we keep ours indoors!

They had to have a debate that went on for months whether or not to kill the coyotes
In the meantime the coyotes ended up killing 5 pets, and were responsible for several dozen attacks. Unbelievable!

Conservation areas, wooded areas, ravines, suburbs surrounded by green space or parks etc.
I get all that.
But coyotes in Liberty Village?
It is a concrete jungle where even a patch of grass is not easy to find.
Or maybe they figured out that the thousands of tiny dogs owned by the twenty-something condo dwellers were all congregating at the same patch.
They probably felt like they had hit the jackpot. 🤔

From what I heard the coyotes lived in Fort York historical site, which has a lot of protected brushland where they could set up a den and hide from the public.
I guess from there they just crossed over and made forages into Liberty village looking for chihuahua snacks

At one point I lived in Mississauga and you could hear them yapping and howling at night.
