People living in rural communities have to deal with wild animals all the time - bears, wolves, etc. We live in Canada which has huge wild lands. Despite our best efforts to subdue nature, we should not deceive ourselves that we can control it any more than we can control the wind. Our cities are repleat with excess and waste. It's not surprising that wild animals would seek to adapt to living here. You can cull as many coyotes as you can catch, but ultimately they will return.
There was also a time when most dogs were the same size as coyotes. They used to be able to defend themselves. Now people love small toy dogs. I won't be a hypocrite - I love them too, they're cute. The dog snatched in Liberty Village was such a toy dog (and on leash, BTW). Dogs used to be hardy and humans' partner in survival. Now they've become pampered toys.
So which condition is actually natural?
