I would suggest your understanding (or hers) is incorrect. Yes they plan the number of beds based on data but it's not like they keep them roped off for specific types of cases. The only thing that comes close is they will not do elective surgeries unless there is ICU capacity in case things go wrong.

Please elaborate on the formula/strategy they use?

Many of us are itching for a jab and still can't get an appointment. If they would allow households to get the jab, it would take care of the older folks tagging along.

How can a single person be so stupid? You're citing the number of people in ICU beds because of COVID. That doesn't include stroke patients, heart attack patients, etc., etc., etc. Do you know how many diseases there are that put people into ICU? The point is that even without COVID ICUs in Ontario ran very close to capacity. Add on those extra few hundred people and you have patients who need ICU care and can't get it.

The separate beds for shit like heart attacks are not even in same hospital today
