While a lot of this was caused by the government waiting too long to enact sufficient restrictions to prevent things from getting this bad, much of the blame has to be borne by the many people ignoring the restrictions that were in place, not to mention the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers who will make sure this nightmare goes on for a lot longer than it should.
