I think you did the right thing, Spanglerdoo. :)
Good that you recognized that marriage with him wasn't in the cards, hope you find the right guy. Or maybe you've figured that a marriage bond isn't necessary and you don't want a commitment with anyone? Maybe he's still the right guy for a partner without the vows?

Hurray for doing the right thing!!! despite quite a few people here coming off as complete douchebags while pointing out the right course of action, while your friends were I'm sure being far nicer telling you to do the wrong thing, you did the good fair thing and thats awesome!

And you did do the right thing.

Your female friends are sleazebags with no moral compass what so ever and it almost rubbed off on you. I can't imagine not just knowing implicitly that it was the onlt right thing to do.

This is pathetic. You accepted an engagement proposal. Love, trust, honour was presumably involved in some degree. Now, eight weeks later, you are on a public forum asking whether it is 'ok' to keep the expensive ring when you dump the guy.

The fact that you are even asking for guidance (read: permission) appears to illustrate your gargantuan lack of moral fiber.

To give you the benefit of the doubt you could be one of two things...
1- a selfish-uncaring-lying-thief
2- too stupid to understand why it is wrong (in which case your IQ would have to be less than 65)

Which one are you?

Doing the 'right thing' in the end does not make you better. You were looking for justification to steal and didn't get the support you hoped for. If the value of the item was higher, it would probably have tipped the scale the other way.

I can't believe all of the posters fucking cheering you and congratulating you for not stealing from someone. Someone who will be devastated by the break up and vulnerable. Someone you claim you wanted to marry or, at the very least, continue to have as a friend. Way to go, Champ! Whoo hoo!

I think I'll go puke now.

You're absolutely right, however most posters here are ass kissers with the women. An adult who has to be told what's right and what's wrong is a douchebag, that's something you learn as a kid. Her initial urge was to keep the ring, that's all we need to know.

On the other hand, if he's too stupid to take it back, keep it. You must be quite the pair.

Unfortunately, during this emotional time, he might not make the logical choice (which is to take the ring back, sell it and party with a bunch of hot sp's). Hopefully he has some male friends who'll tell em what to do.......

Don't give it back. Marry him, divorce him in 2 months, take half his stuff, and keep the ring.
