This post summarizes what I have been thinking since that fateful day in November 2015! As they say a picture (or, shall we make it a collage?) is worth a thousand words?

Just to be clear, I am not saying that His election for a 2nd term CAN NOT happen. It very will may. But. My wonderment will continue to exist then.

And as to my wonderment being simply a “point of view”, isn’t that all what we all (the posters here on TERB) are doing? Posting our points of view? Yes, sometimes people present their point of view as facts and expert opinions, but short of any one of us having done a scientific study of the things we post here (on an Escort Review Board, of all the places), all we are doing is posting our points of views. Some of us are trying to (or at least hoping to) convince others of our points of view. But, in the end, all these posts are simply just that: Points of view.

I agree, everyone is entitled to their points of view. That has been the nature of debate for ages regardless in what forum it occurs. The sharing of opinions, the presentation of supporting information that form the basis of opinions, etc.

But all that changed when Trump decided to run for office.

It was no longer about opinion. It became more of a "if you don't agree with my opinion, my point of view, my morals, my beliefs, etc, then you are not only wrong, but also a (insert insulting label here).

And it became much more than that as well. Trump became a conduit for the Left to criticize anyone who would dare challenge anything to do with leftist beliefs. So if you would dare express different opinions about those beliefs, then you are automatically compared to Trump by way of some kind of association.

I have never suppoprted any politician or party 100%. None have been or will ever be perfect. But today, that doesn't matter because if you dare offer support for Trump in any way, you are met with an avalanche of outrage questioning your personal morals and beliefs.

It's that campaign to attack people with different opinions that fuels support for Trump. It is no wonder why he was voted in and will be again as long as that attack campaign continues to exist.

After we elected Doug Ford I wouldn't rule it out either.
Ontario should have known better and the US should as well.

Yet the right wingers can't even see what coronavirus has taught us.

Government is important.
Socialized health care is vital.
Crippled social programs are dangerous.
Social programs are necessary and even the most hard core right wingers are backing government bailouts.
Government spending is necessary.

Then you get people here defending cutting health care and education.
They are boobs.

Nothing is too good for you Frank when someone else is paying for it, right?

I'm paying for it boob, while I expect I'm also paying for your nursing home subsidy as well.
Don't tell me what I can or can't pay for.

As someone who clearly can't afford to hobby, as you've repeatedly admitted, you really shouldn't be talking financial states with anyone else here.

"Don't tell me what I can or can't pay for."

Why not? I don't want to pay the carbon tax but I've been told I have to unless I wanted to live like a caveman.

Anyone who is paying for it wouldn't be so adamant about raising taxes and brushing $1 billion/month in Liberal debt aside And you do love your taxes! Jeez, you want everyone to pay more because at the end of the day, it pays for the lifestyle to think you deserve.

ps who says I can't afford to hobby? Is that more fake news from you? I should sue you for libel! Then you can use that government appointed lawyer again.

You and I may have different political views. But, I cannot disagree with the thrust of your post.

A few days ago, I posted somewhere on TERB that whatever happened to the “middle”? Trump’s election has so solidified the extremes that it is almost as though there is no middle any more. What happened to terms such as “fiscally conservative, socially liberal”? These days, it appears, you are either on the left. Or, on the right. There is almost no ground left in the middle.

That's definitely true in the US, where you get a binary choice of presidents between either far right or moderate right.
And its fairly true of this board on Canadian politics but through the rest of the country its less clear.
We've had our far right choice with Bernier and nobody went there and our most left choice, the NDP, has moderate support but never enough to win.
So the liberals become the more centrist choice.

It is interesting to me that lessons aren't being learned by this pandemic.
Like the GOP dismantling of the state and defunding social programs setting the stage for Trump's failed response.
Even up here its becoming apparent we should be funding health care more, not cutting it.

The middle has essentially disappeared or is disappearing along with the middle class. Depending on which class you associate with, that would sway your vote. ie if you want "free stuff", vote left; if you don't want your grandchildren to pay off your debt, vote right.
