The salesperson gets paid an extra commission on the extended warranties. The problem is that appliances purchased in the nineties, were made to last. I have those appliances in my basement that is rented out. I find that the modern appliances practically have computers built into them. These mini computers are subjected to extremes in temperatures and can break down more easily. Wish they make those appliances more simple rather than adding all these gadgets. But no I would not buy that additional extended warranty.

A fridge with water and ice dispenser through the door usually causes issues, but I suspect it will happen after 5 years when extended warranty is expired. Also the gas range has a computer "board" to run the oven and I am told if the board goes you're looking at a huge expense to repair - over $800. Of course all this could be B.S. because the sales staff want their commissions. For 2 appliances warranty for 4 extra years above the one year manufacture is $500 + HST. I might take my chances and save the $500 for my first repair.
1. Check the price of the repair parts out first. AMRE Supply

2. If the extended warranty seems like a good deal, the store is about to close. Extended warranty's are a good way of booking extra cash when you are close to bankruptcy, and most of the retail sector is currently in trouble.

I suggest only buying large appliances at Costco. It seems appliances are not returnable once delivered from all stores except costco. . Costco will accept returns for the first 90 days plus provide an extra 1 year warranty. I would only buy an extended warranty if it ran more than 5 years on a very expensive appliance. Just my 2 cents,

I would only buy for one appliance and that's the fridge. They are expensive and they do have problems, I had a Samsung $3000 fridge and three times had to call repair guy. The fridge got fixed and got another one free since they had repair the same part three times.

When I got my new one, I sold it for 800. I told the person that purchase and he was happy.

But back to insurance, just get for fridge. The other appliances are cheaper to replace and easier for you to do the repairs.

Now a days you can learn how to fix anything on YouTube.

I bought once and don't have any regrets. I found local Appliancerepairinusa that work 24/7 and they can fix everything at affordable price. Very convy. The contractors will contact you ASAP to help with your problem, I often use their help for my kitchen appliances.

At one time, I had all Kitchen Aid appliances (washer, dryer, fridge, gas cook top, dishwasher, wall oven) and the quality of the washer was terrible, the oven frequently gave me problems, the rest were fine. Kitchen Aid (unbeknownst to me at the time of purchase is just a Whirlpool appliance. In fact, Whirlpool owns practically every North American appliance brand out there - Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Amana, Inglis, I believe Jenn Air, and a host of others and make various white appliances. They are all the same guts.

I did not have an extended warranty.

It cost me.

With the washer, I thought I'd try to fix it myself but I could not even figure out how to get the back off of it! (I was going from memory as to how my dad used to fix our old GE when I was a kid). I called Sears as that was where I purchased it and when the guy came out to fix it I watched him and lo and behold the back was the one thing that didn't come apart. The head rotated down, 2 long screws, 2 clips and the front and sides just fall away. Amazing. He fixed the issue for a couple of hundred bucks and I made sure I watched that too because I knew it would go again and sure enough it did. Every couple of years in fact.

I ended up replacing everything due to renovating.

I'm sold on Miele now. Have been for years. German made. If you wait for it, Miele will have one promotion or another from time to time and one promotion is a free 5 year warranty. So I'm good with that.

If nothing else, if you are in the market for a dishwasher, Miele is the pinnacle of dishwasher technology and worth every dime. Nothing comes close.
