Jackson's cultural impact is worldwide. Seeking fame and glory? The guy was shy and meek. That's why he was so beloved - no trace of ego. The only thing he was good at was entertaining and he did it better than anybody else. Jackson's philanthropy, humanitarianism, and musical messages has enriched everybody - including the teacher and her students.
Imagine a world without music. On the surface music seems insignificant, but it's not.
It's like saying you have more respect for an unknown doctor than Mark Twain, just because the latter did nothing but write words on paper. I don't think it's such an easy comparison.
Thx for the intelligent response. I still say a lot of this is the groupy need for a strong father figure - the same phenomena that makes us mourn the loss of leaders and allows dictators take over a country (like Bush did)
BTW, I really enjoy Mark Twain, and even been to his house but I do have more respect for the doctor
As far as imagine the world without music if Jackson was never born someone else would have took his place but not that doctor.
Now imagine the world without good teachers yet you could be as good at teaching as Jackson was at entertaining and no one would know except the few lucky students who are being turned into geniuses because I believe anyone with a normal IQ can be made into a genius with the right teaching environment and in the hands of someone gifted - I have met some of the fortunate at a Vegas trade show but we care more about someone who can give us escape for a few hours then someone who can turn us into a genius and I think that is what a lot of it is - escape and worship of a strong father figure
