But you missed my point. All teams have to deal with the cap, not just the Leafs. You keep saying how bad the Leafs' cap situation is. "How bad" can only be assessed in terms relative to the rest of the league.

To paraphrase: If you don't know, just say so. Or better yet don't say anything.
No, I don't know how bad compared to all the other 30 teams, although the article I linked does indicate worse than Ducks, Avalanche, Senators, Canadiens and Devils. The cap situation was also bad last year because they had to trade away this year's 1st draft choice to create more cap space.

What I do know or should I say speculate is that there doesn't appear to be enough cap space to sign all their UFA's and RFA's in 2020 (assuming the Leafs want to re-sign them all).

Do you think the Leafs have enough cap space to be able to or want to sign all their UFA's and RFA's? If you don't know just say so.

Who is Paul Marleau?
Does he play for the Golden Gate Warriors?
And here one would think that you were smart enough to understand he made a mistake.
Maybe you are, but your obsession with harassing the guy probably just got in the way.

From CapFriendly:

Our assumption, and based on the timetable provided, is that the club has placed Cody Ceci LTIR.

As a result, we now show the #Leafs with $20,975,000 in Salary Pool relief, of which they are currently using $14,440,483, leaving them with $6,534,517 in usable Salary Pool space.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are playing a totally different cap game than the other 30 teams thanks to the cap god Laurence Gilman
And what happens when Morgan Rielly comes back? What's that number look like then?

My crystal ball is in the shop.
I don't know when Morgan Rielly will return.
As of now, neither to the Maple Leafs, or they haven't announced it.
If he doesn't return until the playoffs, well then, nothing happens to that number.
Should he return prior to the postseason, that number would drop, obviously.

not always sure...

That should be obvious and I'm pretty sure John Wick's question was rhetorical in response to your post.

The player comes off of LTIR and they lose any temporary cap space they had associated with his contract.

This isn't a brilliant game they're playing that nobody has thought of - the temporary cap space allows them to call up fill in players from the Marlies.
They're not using LTIR in any way that other teams aren't and the quote you emboldened was absurd.

No?

Let me suggest Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks (2014-15).

You just proved my statement.
Patrick Kane was legitimately out for the regular season with injury at that point, they didn't hide anyone on LTIR who was healthy.
Yet young Mr. Kane was magically 100% healthy for Game 1, Round 1, of the playoffs.
Okay then.

Please explain how that has anything to do with making your bold text quote true.

How are the Leafs playing a different cap game than other teams thanks to the “cap god”?

This was your argument, then you pointed to the 2015 Black Hawks like that proved your point somehow.

Yea, I know it's confusing.
There are so many Marleaus in the league and the Leafs had a number of Marleaus they traded away with a 1st round pick to release cap space.
It's hard to distinguish.

Johnsson now out for 2 months, most likely placed on LTIR with Ceci, Reilly and suddenly the Leafs have cap space.

Yes, but this cap space is only temporary. Let's see what Dubas do after June 30th when a bunch of current Leafs become UFA's and RFA's.

Last year the cap space was so tight that Dubas traded away a 1st round draft pick to get some cap space to sign a guy who has a total of 14 goals so far this season.

All cap space is temporary.

That guy is averaging 1.234 p.p.g., over an 82 game season, that's 98 points. Not bad.

Leafs have about $7M of cap space thanks to LTIR, it could be $10M if Johnsson is placed on LTIR. A deal for a much-needed right shot D-man could be done but I don't Dubas making that move if it requires more future assets moved.

The talking heads on CBC said that Muzzin (who will be an UFA on July 1st) are talking contract. That leaves Barrie, Ceci and Dermott (RFA) on defense to be re-signed or not.

How does the Habs blow a 3-0 lead, a team with a perfect cap situation?
……….and a system that Nylander or Marner would not fit into. In old time Quebec they called guys like that floaters. Who, outside of Quebec, has ever heard of such a term?

Keep in mind Montreal is only 8 points behind Toronto and Toronto only has 2 games in hand. I wouldn't be surprised in Montreal uses that cap space to load up at the deadline in an attempt to catch the Leafs.

Dallas Stars is a very good team. Heard they beat the Leafs in regulation a couple of nights earlier. Roman Polak plays defense on that team. Penny's brother, who beat that new Leaf guy in a fight, also plays on that team.
