This little thing that people think means nothing means so much.
Yes, it means so much that Canadian companies were not capable of handling such a task which is so important to the way the country is run and we had to get Lockheed Martin from the USA to provide all software, hardware, etc.

There's only a few questions.

It is the law that you must do it.

They will sooner or later come after you.

No big dea.

Why? Well, for one thing, it requires your consent
The only consent they requested was the consent to waive your confidentiality. Not the consent to actually fill out the form.

BTW, were there, as in previous censi, a long and short version? This one was quite short.

I filled it out. Three times. Just like on the internet, you need multiple handles.

Unfortunately, confidentiality is not maintained by providing your name and address. Confidentiality can only be maintained by complete anonymity. The forms are not designed to allow this precisely because such a provision would make them empirically unverifiable and therefore useless.

The confidentiality was already guaranteed until 2092 or thereabouts; that was not helpful to the present case of whether to fill out the form or not.

Survey says...

Didn't bother, all mass mail goes to the blue box so it likely ended up there with the rest of the trees.

This is BS. It's not illegal to NOT answer your door or phone.

Let's beware of stop lights too. Who knows why THEY really want you to stop! :rolleyes
I suppose you still think that governments do all of their policy work "for the good of the people".

No, I think all intelligent people understand why we are happy to stop at red lights. However, if you don't think that governments take polls to find out what people are thinking so that they can throw money at whatever special interest group might be inclined to vote for a given party, then why do they spend all that money on polling? A census is the only poll that you can't opt out from. It's the Mother of All Polls!

Don't be so naieve to believe that government is only here to provide sober management of the country's business. Everything is political and the data from the census will drive much of the pork barrel spending in the years to come. Once they know the exact numbers for minority, religious and regional trends, they'll know where the votes can be bought (with your money).

If you don'y understand that, then I'm the guy whose rolling his eyes.
