New York Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter should become the first Yankee to reach 3,000 hits sometime in 2011, barring injury.
He currently has 2868(including the two off of Jays pitchers last night, Aug 2).

I voted for yes to Jeter using the first choice, but let me be clear it is Jays first, Yankees second.

Always liked Jeter, seems like a humble star, very rare today.

As a die hard Yankee fan since 1966 (thats pre steinbrenner when they were crap) the first thing I do in the morning is check the boxscores to see how Jeter did the night before.

He's the face of the franchise.

I really couldn't care less. He's a Yankee and therefore scum to me.

I understand some people love that team. I do not. Simple as that.

There's nothing to cheer for, whether you like him or not. He's a lock. It's a given. Automatic.

Shack ... Dude ... I think you need to re-read post #1. The question is not whether or not Jeter will get 3,000 hits, but rather if you are cheering for him to do the feat, a first for any NY Yankee.

I think of cheering for him similar to rooting for him, hoping he will do it, cheering him along.

In my mind, since, barring injury, it is a slam dunk, I would have phrased it, are you glad that he's going to do it or will you cheer him once he's done it?

I guess it's just semantics.

Much as I loathe the NYY's, Jeter is one of the great players of this generation and has always been a class act. He's a sure thing 1st ballot HoF-er and one of the great clutch players of his time. There would be no Yankees Dynasty without #2.

Hate the team; respect the man. I'll be cheering for him all the way.

I won't necessarily be cheering for him... but I do admire Jeter so yes, I will be happy for him when he does it.

Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitney Ford and none of them collected 3,000 hits?

Nobody has collected 3,000 hits or won 300 games as a New York Yankee in the long storied history of the New York Yankees. Unbelievable!
I knew about the hits, but no Yankee 300 game winning pitchers ? WOW ! One would think that the Yankees, if any baseball organization, would have all of those bases covered(pardon the pun).
