My little sister is 17 years old, and is talking about stripping once she becomes 18, to help pay for school.

I'm wondering what you guys would say to her if she was your sister, daughter, grand daughter.

I know i'm hypocritical here, and I can see the irony, but I just don't want her to get into that lifestyle.

She's got a calm head on her shoulders, and she's very intelligent, but I really don't think she understands exactly what the job entails, and how dirty it can actually be.

Any suggestions?

Let her do it...just keep an eye out for her...don't let her fall into the traps that are there...if she has the family support she'll be less inclined to fall..

suggest some of the cleaner clubs and that she limits working to about 2 days max., so she won't get caught up and can keep up with her studies. i have danced part time for the last three years to pay for school, and it has really helped me out. the flexibility let me focus on school when there was a big work load, plus i will be graduating in the spring debt free, with a little extra cash i had saved to move out. my grades are pretty high and i look at my friends that are carrying such heavy student loans and have no regrets at all.

Kat,

if she does decide to get into the industry, would you mind if i put you two in touch, to try and talk to her about it?

Not really sure about it all.

ya its no prob at all. i have to admit, that it is easy to fall into the trap of the money, and i know it will be hard when i go back to a "regular" salary. she can ask me any questions, just pm me and i'll give u my email or #. on the down side though, 18 is still pretty young and i don't know how easy it will be for her to balance the two.

Remember that phrase that your folks used to use..."Don't do as I do, do as I say!!!" It might be time to pull it out.

Good one red!!

Once she finds out how much money she makes she will lose interest in any education very quickly. She'll probably also become a coke-head and eventually, after a few years in the biz, have a much lesser opinion of men.

Having dated a stripper I can tell you this how most girls wind up.

Well... I'm glad you nailed it right on... NOT!
Where do you get off with such garbage? Because you dated 1 stripper you now know about all of the women in the industry and how they "end up"???
Lose interest in education? Become a coke-head? Well... thank you dear sir for finally clearing up this matter for all us uneducated coke-heads. *lol*
I love when the uneducated & uninformed trying to teach the educated and informed.

Escohort,

i happen to know quite a few professionals, doctors, lawyers, etc. with cocaine addictions and/or alcoholics....lets not generalize here please. it can happen in any industry. it's all about how well you can cope.

if she is serious about school, then she could just work a few days a week in the summer, and have enough for each year's tuition, books, etc. my advice, don't work full time, even in summer. she is young, tell her to enjoy her youth and not focus on money too much...it can (not will) harden a person.

best way is for her to have goals and aim for them...don't make dancing the # 1 priority but a small part of her life, imo.

Means to an end.

Kat makes many good, reasoned points.

If your sister doesn't want to incur the huge debts, than maybe Kat suggestion of working a bit in the summer is a valid one. If your sister has an appreciation of her body and wants to give this a try, perhaps you should support her.

I don't think that the drug use is any greater in the stripper industry than it is anywhere else.

I recently spoke with a former stripper and she told me that the reason she began stripping was because it gave her an incredible feeling of power to have all these men and women look at her and desire her. She geniunely enjoyed the business and only left because she has asmtha (sp?) and couldn't take the cigarette smoke anymore. Presumably, with the new smoking bylaws that has changed (not really into SC's myself, so I don't know what the current status is after the bylaws went into effect)
