I think its a dangerous idea to get into the sex industry. I think its very easy to get lost in the money, the weird hours, the pressures. Plus when you leave the biz you leave with no work experience that you can put on resumes.
This is not to say that people don't leave the biz okay but its probably tougher on a person that most regular jobs.

I think people raised good points about being able to work and put themselves through college/university in Canada.

What about living at home, that certainly saves a lot of money?
What about OSAP?

I think I was living on $15000 a year and going to university 12 months at a time. It's very doable. Granted tuition was about $2400 per semester. It just means student housing, cheap food, and public transit.

What about taking a year off to work before going to school? 18 is young anyways. Plus working a year or part time will probably make her appreciate her education that much more, rather than some kids who party away a good education/opportunity.

Perhaps she should rethink her budget.

It is a hard business to get out of. I started out in this business 5 yrs ago, just as a way to pay my way through college. I went to college and just worked as a massage girl on the weekends.
I did graduate, but after graduation I told myself I wanted to massage for about 6 months to pay off the student loans and have some more money, maybe travel before I started off in the real world. (The money I made during college was used to buy a 30,000 car, buy clothes, travel, entertainment etc) That was a couple years ago. The lure of easy money is really strong. It's like an addiction. You get used to getting what you want, when you want it, and it's hard to go back to $10/hr living.
My resume is basically blank, even if I did want a real job. I did work for a few months this past year at a corporate job but only got in because it was entry level at a company where my sister is in HR. So now at 28 years old, I feel the only way I can get back into regular life is by going back to school, and getting into my field immediately upon graduation. No waiting around to pay off some bills.
For me, my views on men have been changed; it's a difficult thing. For the past five years I've seen the worst of men. But I do believe once Im out of this job completely, am working in a professional environment, I will be able to open myself up to trusting and finding a good man.
I've lost many friends because of them knowing where I work, and it's hard for me to lie about it because eventually they will find out. It's hard at family funtions when everyone asks what I do for work. You can lie to a point but eventually people end up knowing something is going on when you have nice things, and cant prove where you work with a telephone number or a business card. It's also very hard to find a man that truly loves me and accepts what I do for a living. Anyway, I would suggest you don't let her get into the business.

I doubt they were really your friends to begin with then. A friend is a person who's there when no one else is.

Respectfully, may I also submit that if you're in a job for money, regardless of what that job is you should probably consider a career change. A job should be something more than just a way to pay the bills.

frankcastle, times are different than when we were in school.

To get OSAP, family income cannot be much more than low-income level. Encourage the middle class family to hide assets & cheat system.

Kids I deal with just scrapping by.

Work in this biz with the $ can become addictive. The taste of the good life, few rarely want to go back to humble ways. Not recommended.

well ask her to get osap. Debt after school is not something to commit suicide over. If you make 40-60k minimum after school a year you can afford to pay 3-400 a month. Mind you she can get a summer job and if worst come to worst i am sure you could pitch in a K or 2 not to see your younger sister strip, not that there is anything wrong with that.
There are other jobs too like a waitress, they make good money on tips especially if you said she looks good. She could even work at a club. They make sometimes 3-400 bux a night. So there are other ways but if she wants to buy a brand new car overnight and wear name apparel and have very low responsability then she might have been focused on striping and use the school a an excuse cause she likes the $$ sign in front of her. Hope thats not the case. But comeone man it's your sister... Is there any price?

My little sister is 17 years old, and is talking about stripping once she becomes 18, to help pay for school.

I'm wondering what you guys would say to her if she was your sister, daughter, grand daughter.

I know i'm hypocritical here, and I can see the irony, but I just don't want her to get into that lifestyle.

She's got a calm head on her shoulders, and she's very intelligent, but I really don't think she understands exactly what the job entails, and how dirty it can actually be.

Any suggestions?
We're a year later, so what happened? And where is she working?
