Cuba has been struggling the last two years, worse than I have seen in 20 years. Because of COVID, no tourists, they are really struggling. Inflation is outrageous.
I am here on my second trip this year, and I am happy to leave some Canadian dollars for their economy. They serve Creemore beer.

I personally like it that Cuba kicked America out. I am sick of going to every poor travel destination in the Carribean only to find Starbucks and McDonald's and Hilton hotels. Americans come in, develope with local almost slave labour and funnel all the profits back home. Some may say it drives industry and creates jobs but in reality it is plundering the natural resources, unmitigated pollution and sweat shop style labor
While it is understandable that some people may prefer a less developed and commercialized travel destination, it is important to consider the potential benefits that foreign investment and development can bring to a country.

Foreign companies can bring new technologies, management techniques, and training opportunities that can help to improve local industries and increase efficiency.

Additionally, the jobs and economic opportunities created by these companies can help to lift people out of poverty and improve living standards.

Of course, it is also important that these companies operate in an ethical and responsible manner, and take steps to minimize any negative impacts on the local environment and community.

The U.S. liberated Cuba from Spain and Cuba prospered for 60 years under U.S. stewardship until that dictator Fidel Castro (alleged father of Justin) took over and stopped playing nice with the U.S. and even allowed Soviet missiles in Cuba.

This is an outrageous history book chapter. Cuba did not prosper under Batista and the Americans.

Why do you think a ragtag group of 21 revolutionaries were able to gain strength and eventually take over the country?

So was the life for average Cuban better or worse after Castro took over?

Better.

Compare the life of a Cuban with the life of a Haitian.

Haiti has been under USA "stewardship".

Haiti is one of the worst countries in the world, because of rampant government corruption.

Cuba is different. For years they received support from Russia.

Cuba and Haiti are similar in geography. It shows how Cuba could have been if the American stewardship had continued.

Cuba has done phenomenally well considering the sanctions continued harassments from USA and exclusions from international organizations.

Testament to the Cuban people's resilience and resoucefulness, in spite of both sanctions and their own government's
incompetence and brutality (which you seem to be fine with).

Using Haiti as an example is so disingenuous, you might as well compare Cuba to Somalia.

You are the one lecturing.
I am not lecturing anybody, except I will now lecture you. I think you should consider a life as a farm worker in Florida without health care and social security before you lecture anybody.

USA has for more than 60 years had it as a priority to make life miserable for Cubans. Surprisingly, they have had a lot of success.
I wasn't lecturing those Cubans voting with their feet, I was only lecturing bourgois Dan who thinks it's fine to lecture Cubans
about the evil USA, but conveniently glosses over the fact you've moved there yourself as an immigrant, you live and work and invest there
and now you can afford vacations in Cuba.

While you're at it maybe you should visit Miami and see how a lot of Cubans have fared over there. Not everyone is a farm worker...

...Surprisingly, they have had a lot of success.
Only if a brutal police state counts as success, but you and your ilk will never have to spend a night in a Cuban jail.

You continue your deceptive ways. It is called lying. Shame on you.

I have never lectured any Cubans about anything.

Deceptive ways lol. Your posts above speak for themselves, and they reek of shameless hypocrisy.

I'll patiently await your review and analysis on the differences in living standards between Cubans living in Cuba vs. Miami Cubans.

But first you gotta get outside the resorts and away from the watchful eyes of the ever present secret police, do keep us posted :D

Well one difference is they live longer in cuba. Socialized healthcare does help humans.
Don't get me wrong, I'm for euro or canadian style of socialized healthcare, the USA is not a good example at all,
but I was commenting on why Cubans risk their lives and take to the sea to escape,
and replying to bourgois Dan, a rich tourist who lives and makes his money in the USA but tells the forum it's better in Cuba if you're poor.
