the hobby needs more capitalism
I stopped using iTunes the first time I switched computers and tried to sync my library. i may be dumb, i may have done it wrong, but it deleted everything that was on my itouch and put the stuff from the second computer only! That's not how I want things to be.
Yup, I hate that. I read that was incorporated into iTunes on behalf of the music/media companies.

I buy that in 2001 when Apple needed them to get on board for the iPod. But not now, especially that the music companies allow Apple to sell DRM free music. The quickest way to turn people into pirates is to treat them like they're criminals.

I'm not going to argue that it might be good for some people. What I've seen however that the huge majority of non-fanboys don't like it. My big issue with OTB was that for apple (or the republicans in his other popular thread themes) can never do anything wrong and it seems like even daring to be critical is a big no no. (BTW, I've actually seen mac users attacked by the hard core users online for daring to offer criticism). On the last thread with this topic instead of just saying I disagree with you, OTB dismissed other opinions as though those that disagree don't count.

Yes. I read an interesting article about "apple fanboys" by an apple user here: http://gizmodo.com/5840704/if-you-already-hate-windows-8-then-you-hate-technology

Great article.
Luv that Apple Taliban term....:biggrin1:

But for now, based purely on what it's shown, Windows 8—and especially Metro—is fantastic. It feels like the future. And you can bet those Windows 8 developer builds are being installed and evaluated on machines all over Infinite Loop. Because while those outside of Apple may be blind to how great Metro is, those inside are not. Apple gets that it can learn from Microsoft (yes, Microsoft!) even if the Apple Taliban does not.

Look, I'm with you. I love Apple products. They're great! But Windows 8? I'm a fan, baby. I'm a really big fan. And I'm noisy.

I would have thought this would have ruined the article for you:

Right now the iPad is the only game in town. Want a tablet? You should buy an iPad. No kidding. No exaggeration. Other tablet computers would be great if the iPad didn't exist. But it does. And as a result I would never in good faith tell anyone making a purchasing decision that they should buy anything else.

And before you berate me, know that I own an Android tablet and have used others. But I also own three iPads. They're better. They have more apps, a more responsive interface; they just plain work. We use them constantly. I'm not even sure where the Android tablet is. I think it might be in a drawer somewhere. I used to keep it in the shitter to read books on its Kindle app, not wanting to sully my iPad. But then the battery died and quite frankly it wasn't worth my time to find the charger and now I've lost the tablet too. I don't miss it.

Point IS many in the 'know' have NO need for such an underpowered, limited but very overpriced iToys, that appeals mainly to kids and Peter Pan types, who want a tablet for just dicking around....:eyebrows:

Any netbook or laptop will save you money and easily outperforms these silly iTablets.

I've got to throw my hat into the "iTunes blows dead goats" ring. Every time I'm forced to use it I marvel at just how incredibly awkward it is. I mean, I totally love some Apple stuff, but it's like they intentionally coded iTunes just to frustrate and incense their user base, sort of like on a dare "I bet I can make an absolute SHIT piece of software that's integral to my products and people will STILL sheepishly buy our stuff!" "Bet you can't!" "You just watch!"

I've designed UI's for my work, and seriously, if I tried handing off that flaming bag of poo, I'd have been out of a job.

I've got an iPad and I dread hooking it up to my computer.. thank goodness I don't synch music or videos between them so it's a very rare occurrence. iTunes is a horrible experience. I didn't mind it when it was just music but once apps came into the mix.... Even with that the apps are just better on iOS so as far as tablets go iPad is the only one worth the money.

Haven't turned on my iPod ever since getting a droid phone. Ah the joys of drag and drop :D

I didn't see it mentioned in any posts, but im surprised no one has brought up xplay 3.5.4, developed by some company called mediafour. I downloaded it a few years ago on my windows xp computer after i realized that i, too, hate itunes but love the hardware. Xplay allows your computer to recognize your ipod and iphone (maybe ipad, i wouldnt know, dont own one) as removable storage drives. So rather than having to run itunes, in fact, rather than requiring that itunes be installed on your computer at all, you can click and drag all your digital media (pictures, videos, and music) all onto your ipod the same as you would an external hard drive. Its very straight forward, everything will already be organized by artist then album then track number. I highly recommend this. Its a gem...

seems like the perfect solution. So, does this allow you to sync your Iphone , ipod etc. to more than 3 devices?

I thought my friend was wrong when he first got his iphone and told me he could only sync it to 3 devices.

Well, thats the "thing"... There is no real "syncing". You have to manually drop & drag all your media onto the device.

I like to think of it as, you don't have to "sync", you can just drag and drop your media. I guess it depends what side you're on.
