Don't get me started with the Yanks ... God love 'em but OH MY WORD .... "Conversate" has honestly replaced Converse. The whole Southern lingo doesn't bother me, I mean, the whole Valley Girl (slit my wrists to listen to) lingo was most definitely NOT started by any redneck. Oh, "Commentate" was another good one I heard on a sports program ... WOW.Oh, and when those fucktards say they are going to "go ahead " and do something.
"Well I reckon we're going to go ahead and go ahead with that project".
Or fixin'
"Ahm a fixin, to fix dinner"
Why? Is it broke? (rather than broken)
Oh and referring to getting into a collision.
Was driving down the road and wrecked.
Its is a word, but only as the plural of It.Its vs. It's
Wow.Its is a word, but only as the plural of It.
Did you mean Its', as in The cat ate its' tuna.? The apostrophe is necessary to denote the possessive.
Not sure about this one.Its is a word, but only as the plural of It.
Did you mean Its', as in The cat ate its' tuna.? The apostrophe is necessary to denote the possessive.
Sorry, that's wrong.[Did you mean Its', as in The cat ate its' tuna.? The apostrophe is necessary to denote the possessive.
How about when people emphasize the wrong word?I don't know for sure (?), please enlighten me, professor. Those errors DO not BUG me, the ppl with attitude DO.
Very well said, there is room in us all for errors, please take it with a grain of salt. I've seen lately a Terbie with lots of posts has run his words together constantly, get a few chukles out of them THO.This is a great thread. Thanks to everyone for the list of entertaining examples.
The ironic thing is that when I see errors of this nature on the internet, especially open forums, I usually take them in stride. I figure they're to be expected to a certain degree.
What really puzzles, amuses, and saddens me is when I see these kinds of misuses in a professional environment. I work in such an environment and some of the things I see astound me. I don't understand why people don't take a few minutes to check their work before sending it out. Even worse is when there's a glaring error in a presentation being shown to a large audience.
That's my rant. Thanks for providing an appropriate platform and please keep the examples coming.
HEHE, that is a good ONE. But but but.. teacher, you forgot i failed English? How about when people emphasize the wrong word?
I stand corrected. This is an exception to the rule for the possessive. Normally, the apostrophe would appear at the end of a word, for words ending in S, X or Z, as in The Raptors' home schedule was released today., or Selena Gomez' boyfriend is Justin Bieber. Thank you for enlightening me, MissCroft. It's odd that its' is not flagged by the spelling check.Sorry, that's wrong.
I'm lost. I'm upset? Not at all.So you got upset i did point it out for you,
Oh yah, Muse ladies are all pieces of crabs, they claw all over you, expensive but... yummy. You do the second one.Ohhh I have 2! I see posts all the time with "craps" & "motherfuck". They crack me up every time!!!!!
Of course you thank Miss Croft, but no mention of my correction and link to data to explain and clarify the "its vs it's" issue.Originally Posted by bobistheowl
