CRA phone scam has victims turning themselves into police

I just got another call and he was yelling at me to contact my attorney. Now this is harassment. I told him that I am calling the police and he just keeps calling.



It is a 647 number which the CRA would definitely not be calling from. Am I allowed to post the number here?

I would hand the number to CRA and the RCMP....

It'll be some scammers from India or somewhere else using VOIP to fake legit phone numbers. CRA and RCMP won't do much.

Best way to stop them is to waste their time.

Answer the phone and say, 'omg, don't worry, I'll pay, just hold on a minute'. Then put them on hold. If you can take the time to pick up the phone and continue wasting their time they'll get pissed off and leave you alone. Just add in 'I'm just looking for my tax return' or 'I need to go find my SIN card' every once in a while to keep wasting their time. Just see how long you can keep them on the phone.

And its fun.

More like the RCMP. The CRA doesn't do criminal stuff, unless it is with a taxpayer; they usually call the RCMP for scams like this.

There is no point.
The phone numbers are faked or spammed through VOIP, just like the Harper robocall scandal, the numbers aren't registered phone numbers.

Ask them to tell you what your name is. They didn't know my name. I would think a CRA officer who is threatening to arrest me would know my name. LOL

In canada it is illegal to not file your taxes.But there is no jail time for not paying.They will put a lean on your house,seize your bank account ect,

You missed the entire thread of what the scam is...
They do NOT claim you did not file taxes
They claim you did not pay correct amount in tax (through some fraud which they never really explain how)
Then go on to say you can get a lawyer but its cheaper/faster to just settle this with supervisor right now
