In a place far, far away
Would you be surprise that every single and I mean every single transation is tracked. From the very first purchase you made (I have been associated the store almost from day one and all my purchases are on file), the frequency of the item, the price point you are willing to accept, how often a product has been returned, etc. It helps the buyers direct their purchases. Costco owns one (and is part of) of the most sophicated supply chain management systems on the market. Something will sit on the shelf for a long time only once. Their customers have been trained to "wait" to buy an item.

This store is not for everyone and will not carry things that people are not willing to buy in bulk.

Just food for thought. :D

P.S. the OTC stuff (behind the counter) is the primary loss leader.

I believe that the savings to the vast majority of members after paying membership is very small. How can Costco compete in tools when there are 3 big box hardware store chains and Canadian Tire in the business. Automotive goods like tires and batteries are dominated by Canadian Tire and Walmart. There are 2 big food corporations with 8 food store chains in the food business in the GTA. The secret to saving is to buy in bulk, buy on special, and buy before you need it.

We're talking Costco, that's a place that caters to middle class families. Average people.
Not upper class snobs.

Anyway, that's their choice of marketing - I believe it's flawed but they've been successful so I could be wrong.
Sorry, if you mis-interrupted me. I did not mean they attract upper class, they defintately do not. They attract people middle class people with jobs who do not steal. I mean a better class of people who are not thieves. I do not think upper class people shop at Costco. Although, I did see a coach of the Edmonton Oilers shopping at a Super Store, (which is the same as No Frills in Edmonton 20 years ago), so who knows.

Then again Upper Class People also have to purchase paper towels and toilet paper (unless they are using bidets) and they are always less expensive in bulk (exactly how Costco and Sam's sell them).

I'd be suprised if Costco sells it cheaper than the major food chains do when on sale.

As long as you are patient you can make the difference up for the cost of the membership during the year. I've gotten running shoes for $5, jeans for $10. They usually have some discounted items almost every week. They also have travelling displays that go from store to store and are usually priced pretty good. You just have to watch what you buy, which a lot of people dont, but if you do, you can find some bargains at Costco. And you cant beat the huge container of Helluva Good Chip dip there for under $6.

Sorry, again I was mis-interrupted. When I win the 50 million in lotto max next week, I will not give a flying fuck where the 100 dollar bills that I use to wipe my ass come from. I just know they didn't come from Costco or the defuct Sam's.

Sorry, but you are blowing things way out the context of the discussion. I don't think Donald Trump shops at Costco for toilet paper.

Perhaps so, but even those with a great deal of money don't have an endless supply of it.

Now we are talking, You have to "cherry pick", and retailers hate us. I bought some jeans a few years ago, for 10 bucks, MADE IN CANADA! For the most part buyer beware.

I do know that you do not need to be a member to use the pharmacy , I also heard that you could use the optometrist without a membership but I am not 100% sure about this.

I think Costco caters to middle class family with kids. The poor can find cheaper deal elsewhere, but takes time, and upper class prefer to shop at Wholefoods and Cartier. After the recession, Walmart actually gained market shares from Costco because middle class consumers shrank (laid off workers) while the poor increased...

Please tell me you are kidding! Is Bill Gates going to run out of money soon? And the hundreds of billionaires out there? Who knows what they use for toilet paper, but, I guarantee you, it didn't come from Costco. Myself, whatever is on the highest demonation of the Chinese Juan (sic) would work for me.

I shop both at Wal-Mart and Costco, depending on the needs and whether it's on sale.

Less so at Loblaws or Real Canadian Superstore, except I have something in need on sale and it's cheaper than the one in Wal-Mart. Only then I would buy and redeem it free by cashing in the PC points.

Most people that have money is because they conserve as much of it as possible by not buying at high prices. Some people do not care to save, some people do not know how to save. Show me a rich person that waste money and I will show you a poor person in the making.

I agree, but there are some that are so rich, that this will never happen. I laugh at some of the movies that have been made proving this point. Unforunately, there are some people with too much money. And, these people, always get more.

Personnaly, I think their Apple Pie, is a great deal. The Paul Newman's Grape juice is the best. If you like chips, they usually have a great deal on big bags of frito lays, and some other specials, but for the most part, like I said, if you have the time to cherry pick there are better deals out there.

I go to the costco with a friend. We split the membership and go every other week. Its not that I save on every item across the board but I do feel that I save money in the long run, and not having to go hither and yon to find deals on various things I figure that I both save time as well as Gas.
Yep, you save money at Costco most of the time, but not all the time.

BTW, I do enjoy $1.99 hot dog with Pop....:p

Memberships is how much these days? 60 bucks? There goes your savings, unless buying bulk for a large family. I used it for 6 months and had my money refunded. If you know your prices...you don't need it. Yes the hotdog is a good deal:eek:
