yeah food is OK at SL...I actually like Cafe Amon---nice patio, good food---just about half way between SL and Dunn..

thanks for info on Jaco-Bob....I'd love to get to the beach next time (I did one long bus trip to a boat cruise last time) hard to go all the way to a place like Costa Rica and not have at least a bit of beach time...and I've heard Jaco is the only beach place with tica action...

Yeah, that's right...it's very spotty chica-wise everywhere else, although it's always an option to take a girl from SJ with you to the beach. Manuel Antonio is beautiful. And although it's not a beach, Arenal is supposed to be an amazing experience. Supposedly, you can get some great photos of the volcano erupting at night. There's also hot springs you can soak in if you bring a girl with you.

As for restaurants in SJ, La Esquina de Buenos Aires is good & a really good restaurant is Fogo Brazil, although it's a tad expensive for CR. I took a favorita there & it cost me $158 for the 2 of us. It was worth it, though.

Exactly the type of info I was looking for a group trip we have planned next year. Thank you.

This was without question, the absolute worst steak I ever had in my life. It was was also expensive and the service was terrible. I wouldn't eat here again if it was free.

Really? I've eaten there many times & it's always good.

Re: service: it doesn't matter where in Latin America you go, don't expect fast service. Their culture has no emphasis on fast service in any situation.

It wasn't just slow, it was almost non existant. I was ignored. I had to actively go find people to get service. The guy sitting next to me said that it's typical there but he likes the steak (he had a filet mignon - I didn't which he said was where I went wrong - apparently that's the one to get).

what kind of "arrangement" is necessary (cost, etc) to take a chica out of SJ

I can vouch for Arenal and area---was there (non hobbbyng vacation) and it was very nice

Dude...it's typical of anywhere in Latin America...they're on their own timetable there, they don't rush for anything. It's just the culture. There's nothing like the North American ideas on service, even in establishments owned by gringos.

That's something you'd have to discuss with your chica. I'd recommend going with her a couple of times before asking her to go to the beach, just so you know you're compatible...cause that's a long phuckin' way away from SJ, you're basically stuck with her.

I'm aware of that.. I was on holiday, I was in no rush, but walking past me and ignoring me for 25 minutes is unacceptable, even in latin america.

Sorry, but I find it hilarious that you think it's out of the ordinary. Do you speak Spanish?
