Cops messing with me?

I was on my way home from work tonight at around 11 pm and figured I'd fill up on gas (before the HST) since the pumps weren't that busy. When I pull out a cruiser is pulling out of a Timmies at the same time and pulls ahead of me. We're cruising down a 4-lane highway with the posted speed limit of 70km/h, with me tailing him in the left lane. I notice he can't maintain speed worth a shit, and he's hovering between 70km/h and 90km/h. I tried to maintain 80km/h but had to let off the gas a few times. So I switch lanes and continue on at 80km/h, eventually inching by him.

Anyway, we come up to a red light and he pulls up beside me. Light goes green and he rockets off enough to chirp his tires and leaves me thinking what the hell was that for? But he immediately slows down and I catch up beside him and he matches my speed until we're going 80km/h again. The next intersection is about 2 km ahead and I need to make a left so I slow down to 70km/h so I can pull in behind him so I'm in the correct lane. He slows down with me, so I slow down to 60km/h and he again slows down with me. I say fuck this speed up to 80km/h again and when he matches me I hit the brakes and pull in behind him before he can respond, and just in time for the left turn. He flips his lights on for a second, then when he sees me turn into the left turn lane he speeds off leaving me thinking what the hell was that all about?

He was waiting for you to do something really stupid (probably due to stress from him tailing you) so he can pull you over.

That being said, in Canada, the police can pull you over to check for ownership and insurance without just cause.

Yeah to be honest, I pushed the line by playing his game. I probably should have pulled over and distanced myself from him. Funny thing is, last time I did something akin to that the cop pulled in with me and asked why I was evading him (seriously). The place where I pulled over just happened to be my destination that time lol.

He just decided to make my long day at work even longer by testing me I guess....

Lol, were you the one in the cruiser? If he wanted to pull me over for speeding, all he had to do was pull in behind me, flip on his lights and nail me. I was going 10km/h over the speed limit, so fair is fair. The only reason I was able to pass him in the first place was because his speed varied between 70 and 90 km/h and I caught him on one of his down swings. That being said, I was never more than a car length ahead of him. I followed him for about 10 km, then he followed me for 5 km.

I've never received a speeding ticket and thought 80km/h was a safe bet, judging by his own driving style and past observations. My only guess could be that maybe he thought I was fucking with him because I stuck with him for 10 km since I happened to be going the same way as him, idk.

Or maybe - in light of the fact that he didn't signal any of his turns, didn't completely stop at a stop sign, and was speeding as much as 20km/h over the limit - he didn't like his right to break the law being infringed upon. Who knows?

Also if I remember correctly when they run the plate doesn't the registered owners photo appear as well? If so yeah I would be pulling over a black man driving a white older woman's car.
