can someone explain to me this tradition that some central and South American teams of when they lose a game at the end they start a massive brawl, happened in the Brazil Uruguay game, again in the U-20 Uruguay USA, and who can forget last years WC between Germany and Argentina
You forgot the Portugal game last night were 2 players got RED carded, one of them for taking the red card from the referee ... classic.

It gets heated on the pitch ... physically and emotionally ... that's my only explanation, and no matter how many time you are told to maintain your cool sometimes you are going to lose it.

I can't speak for those U20 matches you mentioned as I didn't see them. As for last year in Germany it was Frings who started it by punching Maxi Rodriguez.

Way to stereotype buddy *thumbs up* If you're going to stereotype you may as well do it right and mention that ALL football/soccer games have their passionate individuals, and fanatics as well. To pin this "violent nature" to South and Central American teams/fans.........yeah, you're a DB.

it isnt stereotyping when the CBC guys even mention that some of these guys are just sore losers, and its not a Latin thing either, you dont see the Spanish or Italians starting fista cuffs, and I dont remember the last time any Man Utd-Liverpool or Bayern Munich-Borussia Dortmund match ending up in a bench clearing brawl.

There was an incident in Champions League between Inter Milan and Valencia during the 1st knockout round this year ... I can't remember who started it.

Remember that Chinese player who took a whack at a German? during the summer last year during practices before a friendly ... he got knocked the fuck out !!!

In World Cup 2006 ... Wayne Rooney (English) stomped C. Ronaldo (Portuguese) in the balls ... Figo (Portuguese) was Yellow Carded for a headbutt as well ... of course we can't forget the Zidane (French/Algerian)headbutt on Matterazzi (Italian).

Don't get me started on African players ... or on many of the incidents that just don't make it newsworthy that we will never hear about.

There is a long history of this and although they call it the beautiful game there is a dark side that shows itself every so often that makes it downright UGLY.

YES ... the CBC guys did make mention of it ... IMO shows the lack of class they have for the game.

I suggest you two move on and discuss something more positive.

So is yours ... but what held most of them back was the pain of punishment or a word from somebody closer to reason.

On to other matters ...

Mexico v Uruguay today ... Mexico were the winners, no surprise to many.

Double check the times for the final on Sunday ... I believe it is at 5 pm but I saw it listed at 4 pm ... anyways could be pre-game stuff or whatever.

Have to go ... U20 is starting ... at least this time I won't be cold and wet.

Have a good evening gentlemen !!!

any chance of finding that Copa America final in English, the guys talking 500 miles an hour is starting to wear really thin, and why is it that all Central and South American announcers have to announce goals that way, ok it was cool when the first guy started it way back, but when everyone copied his style then it just becomes lame.

You need GolTV to get the English.

To answer your next question ... tradition and lack of creativity.

Besides the Latin format has several variations, here is the common one:
1) Say GOL for the longest time possible or seven short times in a row.
2) Insert Team/Country Name here or Player name
3) Repeat step #1 if you used the long version
4) Insert Player name here if #3 performed and if you used Team/Country name in #2 first

So I am in a predicting mood... call it Perry's Masonic vision! :D

Let's see... Argentina beat Mexico 3-0. Mexico beat Uruguay 3-0. Uruguay tied Brazil 2-2 (but was eliminated on penalties).

If logic means anything in these things, Argentina should therefore beat Brazil.

In soccer logic does mean something because we are talking about team performance and consistency, which is more predictable than the performance of any individual player. At least that's my story and I am sticking to it.

I predict Argentina 2-1.

We'll know in about 2 hours...

Is there a Maradona curse developing for the Albiceleste? Each one of the players that have taken his place (Ortega, Veron, Riquelme) have been unable to win the big match.

Neither did Ayala !!!

Where was Argentina ??? It looks like when it came down to it ... Brasil pulled through like they have so many times before. After the 1st early goal by Baptista it looked like Argentina just faded and the OG just did them in.

Well ... I am still happy because I got to watch 2 phenomenal teams go at it for the hardware.

Let's put this in context. The game in recent times has seen a rush toward ever greater athleticism, with emphasis on pace, power and quick breaks.

Brazil is part of this movement and it obviously works. They overpowered and suffocated an Argentinian side that has been too focused on pretty passes. It's time for Argentina to focus on building better athletes rather than midfield wizards or they will never keep up with the Brazils and Germanies of the world.
