I said it before. All they had to do was walk to the back of the streetcar, pull down on the rope to disconnect the power. They had plenty of time to do it. As they did to hit him with pepper spray.
Again, that's not why they carry pepper spray.

If you want to employ a less-lethal measure, a taser, with lethal over watch (as in, someone beside you with a pistol drawn), is the appropriate response. Anytime a weapon is involved, there is the potential for thinfo to go south very quickly and having a lethal option available and ready, should it be necessary, is good practice.

As dundee might have said, thats not a knife. Also the training video was for enclosed spaces, Forcillo had the option of backing off. While Yatim was armed with a knife, his posture was not overtly aggressive. By drawing his weapon Forcillo had time on his side and had many other options then lethal force.
If you want stop playing armchair quarterback and want to try to verbal judo a knife out of a subject's hand, be my guest. Hopefully, you may learn the value of having armed backup in that scenario, if you live to tell about it.

How about cutting power to the street car, locking the doors and waiting for the kid to throw the knife away and put his other hand on his dick, pull out his phone, start dancing and singing and / or any of the other nutty ass things he was likely to do after 5 minutes on non interaction?

I could be wrong, but I dont think you can lock streetcar doors from the outside

Yes you can. If you look at this photo, the switch is located underneath the red rectangular cover above the right headlight and the number 4026. They could have locked the door and waited for a Taser.

You can definitely lock the doors.

I've seen drivers do it.

They could have locked the kid inside and called his dad like he asked the driver to. Simply waited for him to cool down.

Firstly Forcillo already had his gun drawn, so that video does not apply as the key problem is upholstering and aiming the gun. Secondly, on the RCMP guidelines, Yatim was at most passive resistant and Forcillo had made no attempt to communicate with him and de-escalate the situation.
He had him at gun point and asked him multiple times to drop the knife. At that point in time, what would have been an appropriate attempt to de-escalate the situation? "Hey Sammy put the knife away and lets go get some beer?"

An acquittal will not appeal to the liberals

Police see people on their worst day. That's why I would never be a cop. you respond to calls re a guy who lost his job and wife, couples on drug benders having a domestic, people having breakdowns etc
Exactly

He was armed with a knife, that's not "passive resistant", a weapon immediately puts a subject into the "lethal force/gross bodily harm" behavioural category, to which, drawing a pistol can be an appropriate response.

What were his other options?

Except when a good guy gets killed by a bad guy defending a good guy...

The other thing that should have tipped off Forcillo is that Yatim had his cock in one hand and was holding the knife like a candle in the other. If you go back and watch the video, none of the other officers were concerned about Yatim jumping out of the streetcar and attacking them with the knife.

Their body language speaks volumes.

So true. I couldn't do it!
Forcillo and other cop had their guns draw, they took charge of the situation. The other cops were waiting how it was going to unfold.

I said it before. All they had to do was walk to the back of the streetcar, pull down on the rope to disconnect the power. They had plenty of time to do it. As they did to hit him with pepper spray.
So where does "shoot him 5 more times after he's been hit and clearly down" fall into this?

p.s, I also find it kind of odd that Forcillo, and known hot head, was the only one that had his gun drawn, not to mention is subsequent actions.

Why join a conversation and then spew lies?

You can clearly see in the video below that at 28 second mark 2 cops have their guns draw pointed at the poor innocent victim that is known as Sammy

At 37 second mark the two cops who arrived on scene both pulled their handguns out and hold it next to them as they approach the scene.
At the same time the cop on the left has his hand on his holster
Same with the cops moving into screen at 54, both their guns are drawn

So what video have you been watching?

^^^ You and I are watching a different video because what I see is 2'nd degree murder.

That kid was no threat and he wasn't going anywhere. Even if he did jump off the street car (which he didn't), nothing a bat would not have solved, or pepper spray.

Instead you had Rambo shooting him, then pausing and shooting him some more just for fun.

I'm so glad that Forcillo is no longer a cop. No force should have hot heads like him walking the beat.

Would a cop necessarily know that though?? Are they taught this in police academy??

The street car driver was on the scene. In fact, he was the only person to try and talk to the kid to calm him down.

The cops didn't even bother to ask the driver, within 60 seconds of arriving on the scene, Forcillo had shot and killed the kid. Whatever happened to trying to talk to a person in this situation in order to deesscalate it?

Rambo cop was a complete hot head. He had pulled his gun 12 times in 3 years (that we know about). It's probably more. Most cops go their whole career and never pull their weapons. This guy was a time bomb.

So glad he's going away and will never ever be a cop again.

To be honest, I was just going off memory, but regardless, I guess your on the side that it was justified, I'm on the side this could have been handled much better.

Listen, I can think of it in 15 seconds off the top of my head. So could a cop. And the driver was standing right there, so ask him!

And? Did the crazy kid have an AK with him when he was shot? Is it against the law to have photos of AK's? Had he ever been charged with a violent criminal offence?

Somewhere but not here.

Who is THEY? Street Car driver - could he have been safe walking past him to get to this rope. Did he know 100% sure he was safe to do that? Easy to say with hindsight but what about at that exact second he had to decide.

Even though I'm generally pro-police, it looks like Forcillo jumped the gun here (no pun intended). He could've easily showed more constraint and waited for him to calm down.

Now you got 1 dead kid and a cop's career ruined (which the latter might not be a bad thing)

I mean for fuck sakes, you could tell he was just going towards the door like had already done a few times. As soon as he was in Forcillo's sights, he starts blasting away. Yey, for Focillo because he said "drop the knife" a few times. I mean if the kid was really gonna hurt somebody, he probably would have done it when he had a street car full of people. Not to mention, still no explanation how to justify the second volley of shots. He knew he hit the kid definitely could have exercised more patients.

Well, the kid is walking back and fore INSIDE the street car and the power cords are outside the street car. So where is the problem?
