I saw Neil at Kingswood late 80's solo and still one of the best shows i have seen .
I'm trying out some new free software to compress .VOB files to .Xvid. I do that with AutoGordianKnot on a different computer that needs a new monitor. It didn't work properly on this one, with a more recent operating system. From past experience, the conversion goes much faster if I disconnect from the Internet and close other programs. I'm just not willing to pay for an app to make concert videos for people here. If I can do that for free, the time expenditure is nothing, and bandwidth isn't an issue. One of my go-to apps, DVDDecrypter3.5.4, has been detected by Windows updates, and no longer works properly. I think that if I uninstall it, then reinstall it when I'm disconnected from the Internet, it will work fine again. Compressing video and extracting .VOB files simultaneously don't slow each other down, when done simultaneously.
DVDDecrypter3.5.4 is the final public version of this app. It copies .VOB files from a DVD in disk drive to a hard drive folder, so you can have the DVD as data to watch or burn onto blank disks, without having to expose the master disk each time. It also bypasses every security protection made until now, and adjusts for region codes. It was a free app until about 2005, then SONY bought the patent from the programmer so they could withdraw it from further legal distribution. I guess that makes it kind of 'benevolent ransomware'; it did its job too well for DVD manufacturers to allow the general public to have it, and it was free.
Anyway, if the compression software works properly, I should be able to provide viewing/ download links for Neil at Massey Hall and Van Morrison at The Rainbow 1973 fairly soon.
Watch the Rock and Roll thread for some downloadable full length concert videos I'll be posting soon. I have a few more to upload first.
