The bike lanes are narrow. Now there are so commercial cyclists mainly delivering meals. There are so many of them and they ride really fast (I guess you can ride fast when you are 21 years old). End of rant, for now.

Food delivery sucks the big one.

Food is not as fresh.
Food is not as hot.
Crispy foods are no longer crispy.
It takes longer to get your food
And best of all:

It costs a lot more to get the above "benefits".

I know the average person is not very bright, but I predict that soon people will understand all this and food delivery will decrease in popularity.

Tried Uber Eats only because they had a $20 promotion. Thought I would get my regular meal at a restaurant I usually get food from but actually shelled out more than $10 than I would’ve paid if I had dined in and the food was cold. When the restaurant owners told me that they post the same prices but Uber Eats raises it to what the customer sees on the menu so that Uber Eats gets a cut from the customer using the app. Never used the app again.

Not according to China. More deliveries but same issues. Less pay for cyclist and competition is fierce and food suppliers are jacking up big.

Thanks for this. I thought it was the restaurant's that posted higher prices BECAUSE Uber Eats takes a cut so they had to raise the price to stay profitable.

Yeah, they jack up the prices from what the restaurant charges, plus they take about 40% from the restaurant itself and we're supposed to tip 15% and up on the jacked up price including paying tip on the tax and all for an inferior product.

I will get delivery for pizza and Chinese food from places that have their own dedicated drivers.

It's scam that was exploited because of Covid. Restaurants must have got back a chunk of their dine-in business and their decreased need along with people realizing what a shit option it is for them, should decrease the stranglehold they have and the tactics they use.

Bistro on Avenue, not that far from me, is mainly wings but they've opened up a pretty good deli downstairs.

I looked at the Uber menu online first but decided to drive there myself and do takeout. At the restaurant itself, the prices listed on the menu on the wall were cheaper than Uber's. For example, sandwiches were at least $2 cheaper in person. Every other item also had a price discrepancy.

Almost every delivery we tried, food quality has suffered. Except for pizza, which is delivered by the pizza company.

“I guess you can ride fast when you are 21 years old.”

They are mostly all riding e-bikes.
I asked one of the riders.

Me: Do you get the bike for free?
Rider: No, I pay a rental price.

Other than this forum, I don't want to complain. I doubt these riders make much money and however little they make is deserved because it is hard work.

I have some person experience because I had a part-time job delivering food/meals when I was attending university. One of the fringe benefits were the ladies who answered the door naked.

It's as if you're in a restaurant, your food is ready and they leave it under a heat lamp for an hour before bringing it to you. And they charge you a surcharge for storing your food for you.

During covid, a buddy of mine says he gets delivery from a particular restaurant once a week and that it's as good as if he were there. I said that it's impossible. He's stubborn and held his viewpoint.

I was at the restaurant a few weeks later and was chatting with the owner and recounted my tale.

He agreed and said that it is impossible.

Crazy idea. Why not pick up the food yourself, instead of paying higher rates for delivery? Think incall vs. outcall.
People have become lazy and addicted to convenience no matter the cost or consequence of shitty cold soggy meals for double the price.

I did an hour date and ordered some Uber eats after sex. Didn't care about the quality of the food if you know what I mean.

Also happened to me in a sushi place. I preferred to call and ask for an order to pick up myself.
No Uber eats involved

Not sure how many of you live downtown. But for cars, streets like Spadina are essentially one safe lane and one treacherous “someone’s going to die” lane.

I see bikers (eBikes with giant nav screens) yelling at drivers every day.

Even if you’re biking you get elbowed out of the way repeatedly.

Hoping drones solve this in our lifetime, although at least one a day will fall on someone.

The other answer is one I saw on a truck: “ Don’t like trucks? Stop buying stuff. Problem solved.”
