Sid Caesar, a master of impromptu comedy, dies at 91. In the 50's and 60's he was viewed by 25 million people including Einstein whose favourite character was a German scientist who was so dumb.

Sid, this is your life.

Very talented writers included Mel Brooks, Neil Simon & Carl Reiner all of who became famous in their own right.
Carl Reiner wrote the Dick Van Dyke show based on his experiences on the Sid Caesar Your Show of Shows.

I sometimes confused Sid Caesar with Joey Bishop. Was it Joey Bishop who hung with the original Rat Pack back in those days?

I thought Sid was a master too.

Carl Reiner, a.k.a Meat Head's father.

Yes. Joey Bishop had his own comedy series and was in Ocean 11 (original)

I remember Sid in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World when he was trapped in the hardware store with his hot wife.

That's the second time this week someone has died that I didn't realize was still alive.
Not to minimize a death, but I laugh every time when someone pipes in with "they will be greatly missed". Missed, when we didn't even know they were still alive?

Was a staple during the golden age of television along with Uncle Miltie, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny and others.

I liked him in History of the World Pt.1 as the caveman helping to create the first music.

Yeah, if you asked me I would have said Shirley Temple had passed on and though not 100% sure, I would have guessed Syd was also dead.

By their families and friends no doubt.

What I am saying is that to say he will be missed (obviously not referring friends and family) by people eulogizing him, when they either didn't know he was still alive or said celebrity had been out of the spotlight and done nothing career wise for so long, is a ridiculous comment. What exactly are they going to miss?

A guy like Phillip Seymour Hoffman? Sure, we will miss out on many great performances he probably would have made. But somebody long retired? I don't think so.
