CNN- Star 102, WDOK-FM, calls itself "Cleveland's Christmas station." But its listeners are discovering that one holiday chestnut has been kicked to the curb.

"Baby, It's Cold Outside," the duet in which a man tries to dissuade a woman from leaving a party despite her repeated protestations, has been pulled from the station's Christmas playlist amid concerns about its predatory nature.
Penned by "Guys and Dolls" writer Frank Loesser in 1944, the Christmas song is perceived by some as unworthy for the most wonderful time of the year -- particularly in the age of #MeToo.

"People might say, 'Oh, enough with that #MeToo,' but if you really put that

Too sensitive these days to things like this? SO what do u think???

They’re following in the footsteps of several other stations in the US, who pulled the song following concern from listeners over the song’s lyrics in the era of #MeToo.

In the past few years, the narrative of the song – in which a man seemingly coerces his female companion in to staying the night has come under scrutiny. Cleveland radio host Glen Anderson shared the song’s lyrics, which include lines like: “Say, what’s in this drink?”, “I really can’t stay / Baby don’t hold out” and “I ought to say no, no, no / Mind if I move in closer?” The woman also wonders aloud what others might think of her if she stays.

Shit - I always liked Holly Cole's version of this song. Never even analyzed the lyrics. But yes, now that I think about it they're troubling and the story in the song could lead to non consensual sex - perhaps even unprotected.

When you think about it, even the lyrics for "Santa Claus is Cumming to Town" are kind of creepy. First there's the obvious double entendre in the title. Then there are the hidden meanings within the lyrics. Eg: "You better not shout... You better not cry"?? WTF - is Santa like Bill Cosby drugging, anally raping then threatening silence using and abusing the power of his lofty position? More: "He sees you when you're sleeping". Uber CREEPY. "He's got millions of stockings to fill" ("Stockings" obviously representing various orifices). Then the worst: "The kids in Girls and Boy Land will have a jubilee" - "jubilee" referencing a mass underage orgy with Short Eyes Claus right in the middle. Disgusting.

I suspect that they are all doing so, not because they think the song is predatory, but that some of their listeners will, complain to about the station and create some negative publicity. They are being proactive. The sociological term is Cover Your Ass.

While they're at it why don't they ban that insipid Paul McCartney Christmas song for being annoying.

What about that song about decking the halls with bowels of Holly. Poor Holly.

The song is a bit rapish but it doesn't involve splitting someone open and using their guts as decorations. Blimey!

So is the point that they should play songs that their listeners don't like and don't want to hear? So much that they take the time and trouble to call or write in? If there ls enough contrary opinion in Cleveland it'll make itself known, and maybe carry the day. Yawn!

And who said it was a Christmas song anyway?

They should ban stations playing non-stop Christmas music. Nothing more annoying than half a dozen synth pop versions of the same song.

It’s the right decision. As we evolve there are going to be songs, movies, etc that were loved at one time but are understood as being offensive now. It’s part of learning and growing.

Not really .... In Historical context ... It is a profound Love song .... Listen to the conditions ... snow up to the knees , no cabs available.... She is risking her reputation staying ( unseemly at the time song written ) for a respectable single lady to stay over. So she is concerned. He is risking his reputation with her family having her stay over ( Sister / brother / Mother are mentioned in the song ) YET he will risk his reputation ... TO KEEP HER SAFE ... Remember conditions outside VERY BAD .. ( Huge snowfall / no cabs around ) This is LOVE AGAINST SOCIAL TRADITION & MORALS = THE ROMEO & JULIET THEME .

I was listening to the radio and heard them discuss this and they claimed the Cleveland radio station posted a poll and 94% of the listeners disagreed with the ban as of this morning.

"Baby It's Cold Outside" was an Academy Award Winning Song, incidently. Just a nice little romantic song bashed by idiots who don't want their sensitive feelings put upon. When are people, men and women both, going to stand up to the fearmongering media feminists, radicals from all sides and other social misfits.

When is this stupid stuff along with, he said she said, unprovable harassment allegations and other "you can't do that because it might offend me" issues going to be ignored and put down by the rational people in society, assuming there are many left.

These kind of discussions always bring my mother to mind.
She died two years ago at 95. A fairly tough girl who literally wore cardboard in her shoes during the depression, was married to a decorated WWII vet and raised 4 successful kids.

She laughed at feminists calling them spineless publicity hounds who have no idea how to handle a man. She sort of considered most of us today soft and self-centered with little sense of community who cry wolf when things do not go our way. I think society is proving her right, unfortunately.

Back to the songs. How about the lyrics to Metal and Rap songs played on the radio? Lot worse than the one in question.

Or... the dude just wants to score......I have no problem with the song either way. It has no rape inferences unless you have a very dirty mind and fabricate such a scenario.

I don’t know how I could have missed it but the song clearly implies that the guy is going to spike her drink, wait until she is unconscious and then sexually abuse her - likely in every orifice - before exploding jism all over her face. And the next day he would have the nerve to wink at her and say “Hey Babe, how’s about you go grab me a coffee?”. It’s so obvious.

BTW - Rudolph’s nose is red because he is a mean, hopeless drunk who still drives during a snow storm. Totally irresponsible. Santa is a pedo.

Don't laugh, they have also been going after the original Rudolph stop motion for being misogynist and promoting bullying culture.

As well "Jingle Bells" is on a few lists as its origin is apparently from a songwriter who worked travelling "blackface" minstrel shows.

The Pogues "Christmas in New York" for Homophobic slurs.

And Bob Geldof's "Do they know it's Christmas" because it promotes the idea that Africa can't solve its own problems.

Not kidding.......
