Hellholes of the earth
I was posting OT in another thread where cigars came up for discussion. So, a dedicated thread is in order. The demographic of our members is likely to favor this activity, so here's a place for reviews, Q&A and other cigar discussion.

One topic of interest is cross border cigar tastes. In Montreal, I can get just about any Cuban but it is very difficult, or impossible, to find Dominican, Nicaraguan and Honduran cigars. For the American smoker, the situation is reversed. Also, many Americans go gaga over the prospect of smoking Cubans. The reality is that the cigars available on the American market have improved dramatically over recent years, whereas the Cubans have dropped in quality.

Of course, cigar smoking is a highly subjective experience. So, discuss.

A Cuban Cohiba doesn't come in a true Churchill size.

Cuban quality has improved dramatically in the last year or more, while I find Dominican, Nicaraguan and Honduran cigars are leveling off in quality after the 90's boom.
With 3 humidors containing some 400+ sticks, it's difficult to decide my favs.
C.A.O.
Padron
Carlos Torano
Rocky Patel Vintage
Gishpert
Onyx Reserve
A few Good ol' Cuban Monte #2s
A few left over Cohiba Robustos Esplendidos
Some San Cristobal de la Habana El Morros
...just to name a few.

At the range!!!
Most of my smoking experience has been with cubans.

My fav. to date is the H.Upmann No.2 52 Gauge. I could smoke these things 24/7. Monte cristo make one in the same gauge or close to it which also a great smoke.

I have tried quite a few different cigars over the years (Montecristo #2 is really good as well) But for me, my favourate one will always be Romeo & Julietta #1.

My preference is the Montecristo Especial #1, which is followed closely by Montecristo #2.

Depends.............

"what is your preferred beverage while smoking"

on the cigar actually, example being a Cohiba Triangulo with anything single malt. Kind of partial to Dunhill Cabrera's & J. Walker Blue though - good value.

Best Regards

Guantanamera..........

"It can be difficult to match a single malt (my fave drink) to a cigar. I prefer martini or beer for this reason."

On the other end though, much can be said for sitting in Central Park enjoying a Guantanamera after a Nathan's hot dog and a cold soda beverage.

Best Regards

Personal favs include the Don Ramos Gigantes, Don Ramos Churchill's, or for a quick fix Don Ramos Petit Coronas.

Hope that helps!

You are just as well, if not better off buying Honduran cigars from a U.S. based e-seller. Prices in Honduras, the Dominican and Nicaragua are often higher-the Dominican for sure. There are a lot of fakes out there. It's not just Cuba.

Order from a U.S. cigar website. If you have a friend in the States, have the cigars shipped to him, then have him mail them to you, via USPS ONLY and label as "gift" or "books" for example.

The Rocky Patel Vintages are from Honduras and they are great. A review will follow soon.
