Well, that didn't take long. Minutes after being done with Halloween, stores are already pushing Christmas sales. I'm going to apply for the Mall Santa job again. Pay is terrible but there are some fringe benefits.

Mall Santa is a hard job. Long hours, low pay and people sitting on your lap. Also, that damn Santa suit gets really hot. Anyway, somebody has to do it.
Santa has a heavy work load but the elves do lend a hand.

One of the duties of Mall Santa is to interview applicants for Elf jobs.
But in real life no one wants to be known as Tiny Tim.

Yes, Christmas is the silly season for some people. (Actually, the silly season is all 12 months for some people.) Our local library declined to put up a Christmas tree one year but sanity prevailed the following year.
BTW 1: I'm not sure if the roof work (if there is actual roof work) is the real reason for no Christmas tree at the Eaton Centre.
BTW2: It's no longer Christmas, it is now Cavalcade of Lights.

Let's give the Eaton's Centre the benefit of the doubt. They said they will do some other things for Christmas this year. If they don't put the tree up next year, then we'll get on their case.

I actually was a mall Santa in Ottawa in 1971. It was at Lincoln Fields Mall (now gone) on Richmond rd. The Manager of the Mall was a Carleton University Grad and contacted the student association that ran a job bank for part time work for students and was looking for someone to be the mall Santa for 6 weeks. He also wanted a a female to be Santa's elf helper.
I happened to be in the office the day he called looking for a job over Xmas and the guy answering the phone said "Hey, you wanna be a Mall Santa."
It was decent pay but no days off, worked from 10 am to 8 pm so I said Ho Ho Ho sign me up!!
Amazing gig...No idea how may kids I saw but probably 100-150 a day, it was a fun and had a great Xmas with the extra cash. The big bonus was the girl that they got to be my elf was hot and after 2 weeks we decided to get it on until the job was over as both her boyfriend and my girlfriend had gone back home for Xmas.
