Gotta go to a wedding in Cheektowaga next month. What's the area like? i.e., is my car going to get stolen?

Anything is possible anywhere but Cheektowaga is home of the Walden Galleria Mall, the Buffalo International Airport, and Amtrak's Depew Station is just over the town line into Depew. It has been a few years since I was last there but it was a perfectly nice suburban area of Buffalo.

Make sure you have travel insurance for both and your car. I'm pretty sure your Canadian car insurance won't cover you when you travel to the US

Almost every Ontario auto insurance policy will cover your car and liability on vacations or visits across the border. However, medical insurance is a whole other matter!

I have overlapping extended trip travel/medical coverage from several premium credit cards that cover me for up to 3 weeks without any need to notify them. If I go away longer, I just increase the coverage for about $100 for a couple of months.

A wedding in Cheektowaga? Just don't over indulge in Jenny Cream Ale and kielbasa and you'll be fine.
Genny, short for Gennessee.

There is a Duff's Wings in Cheektowaga. Better than the Duff's (same brand) in Toronto.

First thing I thought of was old Irv and Fires.

Who knows Keeb, your car could get stolen anywhere, Cheektowaga may or may not be that place.

Overall Cheektowaga is a pretty safe burb. What general part will you visit? The only area slightly dicey is the far west end that borders Buffalo, when viewing a map but even that area is safer than some areas of Buffalo and well policed.

Here, I had thought it was a play on words with the Pop Band

https://firesofcheektowaga.bandcamp.com/
Which if it's from a Southern Ontario band (it looks to be Toronto) was almost certainly inspired by Irv and his love of reporting on fires.

I never figured out whether Buffalo just had more fires or whether Eyewitness News just gave them more airtime but it sure seemed like Buffalo suburbs were always burning.

Don't go. Ask them to have the wedding in Mexico instead.

I see that Irv Weinstein has been diagnosed with ALS.

I would have thought that he was rather old to develop that tragic disease.

I believe that Irv was a native of Toronto who went to Buffalo to get his start in television news and decided to make his career there. If I'm not mistaken, his father owned a small chain of grocery stores here (Lucky Dollar or something like that) and they made their name by issuing lucky green stamps, and when you filled your book you could redeem it for merchandise.

And yes, I guess that I actually am that old!
