That makes sense, they're more in control and can decide who they will fuck. The social aspect could be something they enjoy, they might even know some of the regulars and the staff.
It might be just my perception, but in general it seems people fuck the kind of people that they would be willing to date if they were not married. In other words, expect to see interest from women who look like the girls you can pick up at the grocery store or laundry room. You just get in a few hours what typically would take a few days or even weeks to get in a more normal situation.
Having been to the club a few times (we prefer ozone or X) there are very few couples who are alone or getting it on with another couple who enjoy a dude or dudes just standing there watching, if they are showing no interest in you joining them, move on.
$80 is the fee to get you upstairs to the play area. It's a membership that can be re-used until it expires I believe.
