How dumb can you be? To pull that stunt in front of a female judge --- apparently one with no sense of humour:mad:. Anyway, off to jail Chad goes.

While he was a talented professional athlete he was pampered to, even though he was a attention seeking douche.

Out in normal society his act isn't tolerated. He gets treated like every other douche deserves to be treated. He ain't special no more.

It seemed a bit harsh.

Football players are notorious butt slappers. I remember Gilbert Brown recover a fumble and rumble in for a touchdown. His ass got beaten red by the time he got back to the sidelines. This judge was making a statement, celebrity does not get you a free pass in her courtroom.

I thought so as well. It was just a slight pat on the backside. Silly but rather harmless and the pattee didn't complain but in "civilized" society that is technically assault and the judge was not amused.
Life lesson: Always be on your best behaviour in front of any judge because they have the power to throw you in jail.

Most rational people who are not overly self-absorbed (Hello Chad) already know this. I imagine his lawyer would have also reminded him several times over the course of his trial to watch himself.

Self-absorbed/feeling entitled does not go over well in court. As innocuous as his gesture may have been, under the circumstances, IMO he fully deserves what he gets. Maybe it will help him in the long run.

over reaction by the judge. she is obviously insecure.

she ordered him to thank his lawyer, he patted his male lawyer on the butt and said good job-typical for a football player, nothing to do with the judge or court.

Totally agree. He pats his lawyer on the butt while in hand cuffs. He's a jock, that's how they say "good job" or "way to go". I didn't find it disrespectful. It's not like his lawyer was a female and I doubt he was offended by it. If I was the lawyer for 1/100th of a second I'd think "that's different" but soon correlate it to him saying "nice play" on the field.

Maybe she could've gave him a 1min speech saying that this isn't the place for that blah, blah, blah, this isn't the football field but he didn't deserve jail time. Patting butts is common practice on the Football field, Basketball court and other sports so I'm sure to some of those athletes it's a automatic harmless gesture.

For a court room he was out of line, the same as he'd be out of line wearing a suit for a football game. Conduct yourself based on the situation.

When your fate is in the hands of someone you don't know, who may have certain quirks or opinions, all you do is remain silent, speak when spoken to, yes sir, no sir. Do nothing improper or anything that could in any way be perceived as improper. I'm sure his lawyer warned him and I have no sympathy for him.

He appeared again before the same judge today and apologized to her for disrespect to the court. The Judge accepted his apology and reduced his sentence to seven days.

7 days in jail for stupidity. That judge does not suffer fools gladly. Imagine what punishment she would hand out if she is a mod on TERB.
