:mad:With the the warm weather approaching, people out and about be extremely cautious of cell phone thieves.
was visiting family, walked out from their condo. A young clean looking guy in his late 20s asked politely if he could make a call for a friend that he was to meet, has not yet arrived. I had obliged dialed the number for him handed over the phone.

He started running down the street with my phone. I could not catch the dirt bag.
Luckily a couple strolling with their children saw what had taken place. They came forward, to inform me the same guy tried the same scam, only reason he didn't steal their iphone he could not reach his buddy.
They were requesting to hold his wallet while using the phone. Therefore the guy gave back the iphone, and his wallet returned. The good citizens proceeded to give the name and address of the thief, they memorized because they may have known his family, and dialed 911 for me. LE and I went to his home, I id the prick, got my blackberry back.
Told the thief in front of le glad they found him before I did.

I called my cell phone carrier, to check if LD calls were made, thankfully none.
The carrier then proceeded to tell me, I was lucky things for me turned out.
He had a women robbed of her iphone with a gun held to her head.

Did you read that he called the cops? More invisible print again Nutty.
I don't think nottyboi's post indicated that nottyboi thought the cops hadn't been called, it appears to be wondering if the cops did anything other than enable the OP to get his phone back. I would hope they'd arrest him or somesuch as well.

That's why I keep my 2.5 year old Blackberry. (Bell has been sending me letters that I can get a new phone (strange cause my contract doesn't expire till January. There's probably an angle in there for them somewhere.))

1. Don't care if I lose it.

2. Don't care if it gets stolen.

Just call Bell and have them deactivate it for me should any of the above happen.

I don't buy this story!!!

"LE and I went to his home, I id the prick, got my blackberry back."
Is this from a Kojak movie ? Dude, LE never team-up with "victims" for an investigation.
I wander if "The good citizens" part of the story is from a black and white John Wayne western?

Good look with your future writing but mixing Kojak with John Wayne doesn't look good to me!

They want you to upgrade your phone and extend your contract NOW rather than wait till January and shop around to see how badly they are reaming you.

Wouldn't the phone be held as evidence for trial?

Probably true.

Am I getting reamed? Probably. But I honestly have no idea as I don't have the time or energy to research who gives the best deal.

I get 600 minutes (doesn't matter whether it's long distance or local), unlimited email, unlimited text (which I seldom use) for what works out to be $118.00 a month (it's a business account). It's a Blackberry.

It's Bell.

The answer to that question, they handcuffed him read him his rights, charged with theft, drove his nonrependant drugged up ass to jail. The cops love to get these pricks!

And you think being charged with cellphone theft is going to keep this guy behind bars for how long?....Have you paid any attention to our justice system? Why were you stupid enough to hand over your phone?

Probably because he is not an asshole. And the actions of a few misfits should not make us so cynical that we let our fellow humans suffer.

That would be the rational and logical interpretation of my question.......

By your logic, OP should have let the thief get away with robbery over $500. Where would you draw the line? Theft over $1000? $5000? Or maybe assault? Wrong is wrong!
Somebody has to speak up; otherwise, society is sliding down a slippery slope to anarchy!
