By your logic, OP should have let the thief get away with robbery over $500. Where would you draw the line? Theft over $1000? $5000? Or maybe assault? Wrong is wrong!
Somebody has to speak up; otherwise, society is sliding down a slippery slope to anarchy!

I agree, especially if he is a young punk, stick him with a $5000 fine and 3000 hours of community service and perhaps he might straighten out after he spends the summer sweeping the streets for free.
