But Colbert isn't on until 11:30.

And Colbert goes after low hanging fruit, for the laughs.
I wouldn't characterize him as problematic in any way.
But yes, it is a dying comedy format.
I suspect with all the cord cutting more people watch the late night clips on YouTube than stay up to tune in for the actual program.

Although late night shows are increasingly a thing of the past, and even though they have cited financial reasons, cannot help think it is political.
Not a good sign if so.
Colbert should just go the route Conan O Brien has and most likely will.

Colbert and Kimmell are losing viewership...Jimmy was only pulling 2M max he's gonna be next...people are simply tired of their lame ass jokes...look how Jon Steward is reviving his career...Look how quiet Oliver and Meyers, too much progressive writers on your show isn't a good thing... Gutfeld is beating them, Imagine if Rogan had interest on a night show... I won't be surprise if Shane Gillis will get his own show next...these talk show hosts are too afraid of the progressives / cancel culture they lost their mojos of being funny.

The fact that there were three (four counting Gutfeld) talk shows on at 11:00 pm EST is probably a bigger factor. Perhaps that's why CBS wants to try something different.

I thought Gutfield ended at 11 EST and all the others started almost half an hour after that?

I don't think the demise of the legacy network talk shows is all that deep politically. A whole lot of competition within the genre and with other genre. Young people have many entertainment options at their disposal. Someone pointed out that you can watch the best moments of Fallon, Colbert and Kimmel on YouTube. You don't have to sit through a sixty minute broadcast.

Now did Colbert find a niche being more pointed politically.........I would concur.

Not sure a Rogan would work in a sixty minute legacy network format with a bunch of commercial breaks to boot.

Since they are seemingly abandoning the show completely, they have at least some plausible deniability that it is purely political.
Especially if they do, indeed, not come back with any kind of talk show there.

I tried watching Fallon (who I think has stayed relatively apolitical?) and while he has his moments, I've never found the same enjoyment from him, Kimmel, Colbert etc.

Fallon has some likeability and vulnerability to him I find though whereas the other two are self righteous bulldozers.

Surprisingly, Gutfeld on Fox News outdraws all the late night hosts. I suspect viewers were tired of a steady diet of liberal politics on the three legacy networks. They decided to watch a show that openly espouses conservative politics but also makes them laugh.

I have caught "Gutfeld" a couple times. He and his panelists are pretty funny. He doesn't adhere to the standard format of a celebrity telling some silly, tired anecdote and then proceeding to promote their new project. I do kind of like the silly stuff Jimmy Fallon does with guests though.

More likely is that all the old fucks watching Fox fell asleep with the TV on...
