NATO's relevance depends on US support LoL...without US...they won't do shit about terrorism...US always does the dirty work for these clowns...
If a hypothetical invasion of Canada or Greenland occurred -- and I say hypothetical because there's no way it will happen -- the US basically starts WW3. There's no way all of Europe is just going to sit back and do nothing, because experience says dictators don't stop at just one country, they spread their carnage like a cancer and the best way to stop it is immediately. And no, the Yanks can't take on the whole fucking world. They're also pretty shitty when it comes to being soldiers.

if there is no way it will happen, why bring it up at all ?

He stood up for Freeland? What video did you see? And his response to "never say never" was not audible, and only a whisper, nothing bold our outward. Was there an AI version you saw? Go watch it again. Show me where he defended Freeland and was vocal in response to "never say never" Believe what you want, the truth is out there.
It was there for the cameras and Trump saw it. Why does he need to defend Freeland? And she is a nasty backstabbing cunt. Probably collaborated with Carney to get Trudeau to quit.

i never said Carney is or isn't capitulating
i just pointed out we can not afford to wait 18 months

here is Trumps leverage vs Canada
  • Canadas economy is 2/3 trade dependant
  • 3/4 of Canadas trade is with the US
  • The US economy is 2/3 domestic consumption
  • 17 to 20% of US trade is with Canada
he can wait us out

  • The US economy is 2/3 domestic consumption

no he is not trying to tank the world economy.
he is risking tanking the world economy. , but that is not his objective
he is a lot of things , many of which are despicable / repulsive, but he is not stupid

there is a trade deal , he loves to do deals
so for Canada the question is
  1. do you do a deal giving up some concessions on supply management while getting concessions on softwood lumber and saving our auto sector or
  2. wait it out knowing our economy will permanently shrink
if we do not get a deal preserving our auto sector, Trump will steal a huge chuck of it via lower corporate tax rates over 4 years and tariff uncertainty over 18 months
if Carney implements an industrial Carbon tax,/ carbon import tariffs the Auto makers will shift production to the US at an even faster pace like as in lets get the hell out of there.
the implications of waiting it out for debt laden Ontario will be devastating (i.e. possibly provincial govt insolvency >>>> Health care Funding)
So, I'm right. Thanks.

All you did there was spout off the usual obvious. Without a single actual concrete thought to mice it forward. Which tells me you are complaining for complaining sake.

Shortest time in USA history to negotiate a trade deal is 18 months. That is essentially more time than Covid Lasted lockdown wise. So I'm not that worried.

And Trump is trying to tank the world economy, or is he really that, along with his advisors, that stupid?

From which orifice do you pull your numbers out of?

Our gdp s 2.1T, our total export is 0.7T, if you can do basic math which you obviously can not, a third of our economy is exports and two thirds is domestic consumption.

you are a strange one
there is nothing in my post that supports your position

Wrong!
you obviously do not understand how Canada is far more exposed to a trade war than the US is
the numbers highlight this clearly, yet you pretend they do not matter

Shortest time in USA history to negotiate a trade deal is 18 months. That is essentially more time than Covid Lasted lockdown wise. So I'm not that worried.
executive orders take the stroke of a pen
if tariffs can be applied via executive order, they can be removed, altered via executive order
an 18 months trade war will devastate Canada

If you are somehow immune (govt employee ? ) congratulations , now start thinking about the millions of Canadians who will lose their jobs in a prolonged trade war

you are also forgetting / ignoring the absolutely massive amount of debt incurred by provincial / federal govt during covid
and the subsequent inflation from the money printing
We can do that every time there is a crisis

the depth of your thinking is very shallow

And Trump is trying to tank the world economy, or is he really that, along with his advisors, that stupid?

Wow, you're a Trudeau fan boy, says it all. And yes he should defend Freeland, she is a key member of his cabinet. Guess you're a fan of how Trudeau treated the women in his caucus, Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott. Champion of women that Trudeau...until he isn't/wasn't. And if you want to challenge Trump, more than trying to mouth something, you need to show leadership. And how your fanboy Trudeau got into trouble with Trump, trying to backstab him with other political leaders. Trudeau should have been gone long ago, most incompetent PM ever.

there will be a very long line of small and medium sized business that will have gone under in Canada if these Tariffs are still in place 18 months from now
and there wont be a bounce back recovery from that
And there is quite simply nothing that can be done about that. Except wait for Trump to drop the Tariffs. He has repeatedly stated nothing will drop them. So any sort of call that Carney isn't capitulating is just wrong.

There will also be a very long line of US businesses as well. And other nations too. Trump is literally trying to tank the world economy. So be it. It either gets resolved, or in the long run businesses adjust to the new reality.
note I am certainly not endorsing the Trump Tariffs, however it is wise to understand what/ how the opposition is thinking

"We're going to come out of this just fine," said Gary Cohn, who was director of the National Economic Council during Trump's first term and is now vice chair of IBM (IBM). "We've lived through recessions, depressions, COVID, the financial crisis. Every time we thought it was really bad, it got a lot better. This is an unbelievably resilient economy here in the United States."
It's not just blind faith in the US economy. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he talks with Trump frequently and there's a kind of rational strategy behind Trump's trade war. "He's not a rigid person who will not adapt," McCarthy said. "At the end of the day, he's not going to have the shelves empty. We are in the middle of negotiations. He knows he's got about 60 days to do something."
Sixty days is a rough estimate of when the Trump tariffs will start to have notable and negative effects on the real economy.
While new tariffs are in place now, including a 145% tax on Chinese imports, many US businesses stocked up on imports during the first quarter, knowing tariffs were coming.

As president, Trump has the authority to remove tariffs as quickly as he imposed them. So, at any point during the negotiations with numerous trade partners that are supposedly underway, Trump could claim that a deal is in place, allowing him to lower or eliminate tariffs.

Trump has stated tariff stay on. So it's completely up to him. It's that simple. All you are doing is repeating the obvious and saying nothing of new substance.

I'm right. It's up to the collective world to hurt the USA enough. There is nothing Carney can do at this point except go through the motions.

No point whining there Johny. You are pretty much a broken record now.

Aa for me I saw this coming years ago. Killed off my debt, one year left of mortgage and can clear it if I have too. More relaxed recession proof job(private non profit sector), lots of savings to fall back on, conservative portfolio that has rebounded. Simple lifestyle. So yes, I will be fine, thank you.

Try to relax. the world has been through worse.

You just proved my point. I said wait Trump out. How ever long it takes. That is the only solution.

trump states a lot and then states something different the next day

you were crystal clear the minimum time to do a deal in the US was 18 months
WRONG
approx. 60 days

I'm right. It's up to the collective world to hurt the USA enough. There is nothing Carney can do at this point except go through the motions.
no do not wait for others
Carney needs to act in the best interest of Canada
Canada is also far more exposed to trade than China is

No point whining there Johny. You are pretty much a broken record now.
that's not a proper admission when you are plain wrong

you saw a trade war coming years ago ?
I do not believe you

i have also managed my affairs prudently, however i do think about the risks to other Canadians

Try to relax. the world has been through worse.
So no need to elect a Carney saviour at the cost of 4 more years of corrupt liberals then

trump can get the shelves filled by easing off the Chinese tariffs while still putting the screws to Canada

again we can not out wait the US in a trade war

Are you really that stunned ?

If Carney should drop the tariff war with the US...it hurts as more than it hurts them... if zero tariff on both sides is what it takes...why not... He should also consider opening up the pipeline for Alberta unite Canada instead of pushing Alberta away...stay with Trudeau policies and he will have the same fate.
