Fucking thugs, broad daylight today by keele and major mackenzie.
Yep, when I collect my 70 million dollars tomorrow [I haven't checked my ticket but one can hope], perhaps not get ghosted by Rolls Royce but get Sparked by Chevy.

Nobody has ever been car jacked driving a Chevy Spark or a Nissan Micra, at least not in the Canadas.

Some unscrupulous mechanics will make a copy of your fob when your car is in for service. They already have your address on the shop work order, so they provide the info to thieves who will steal your car.

Most Teslas are recovered because they are easier tracked but it's just a matter of time before the thieves figure it out but then new updates may keep them at bay

Heard a pizza delivery driver in a 2004 Acura TSX was car jacked last night. They wacked the poor guy in the back of the head after robbing him.

This obviously wont help against carjacking, but it will help prevent regular car thefts

Yet in Japan, you can leave your cell phone unattended for a day in a highly trafficked area and nobody will steal it
In Dubai you can leave your Rolex in a bar or restaurant, and the next day it'll still be there for you to pick up. If it's a real upscale restaurant the owner might even put it in a plastic bag for you

How about this. A switch that's easily accessible, but not obvious to someone who jumps into your vehicle. It shuts off the fuel pump 1 minute after the switch is activated. Or you can remotely shut it off with an app. I doubt the car jacker would hang out in the vehicle once it shuts off.

Hmm, I wonder what's special about these places? They're so different in terms of culture, geography, political system, yet they're both high trust societies.

I just can't put my finger on it.
Whats special about them?? They'll chop your hands off if you steal something 😀

Great deterrent, that

EDIT: actually they did away with sharia law, but penalties are still quite severe https://bineidlawfirmuae.com/theft-punishments-and-fines-uae/

Stolen car, not technically a car jacking. His family will probably sue the car owner and BMW and ask for his brothers to be let out of jail for murder. At least he died doing what he loved.

Next thing you know we'll be installing metal bars on all the windows of our homes too and have giant steel gates installed around the perimeter of the home, so that it's harder for criminals to break & enter. We'll tell ourselves what a great idea it is.

I guess that when we live in a society that is incapable of cracking down on criminals, we just have law abiding folks find creative ways to limit their own fun and freedoms.

It happens little by little over time and before you know it, everyone lives in a world afraid to leave their front door.

You look around and ask yourself, "how did we get here? This isn't the world I grew up in."

T.O.
Go on, tell me more.
You expect a country with the most polite and respectful cultures on earth (and the lowest crime rate)
to be infested with gangsterism and carjackings? The cleanliness of their crowded streets speaks volumes (unlike many NA cities sadly)

I dabbled in Japanese language lessons a while back and enrolled in Japanese MA when I was younger,
one of the difficulties of their language that foreigners struggle with is the informal vs. formal vs. honorific forms of addressing others.
That should give one a taste of their culture of respect and non-confrontation.
Of course they also got Karate/Jujitsu/Judo and other fine arts to help them deal with bullies and assholes when push comes to shove
