I remember that night. Roy with his arms up in the air in a sarcastic answer to the idiot Montreal fans and their mock cheer. Shuffling past Tremblay to get to Corey to deliver his famous message. 'I have played my last game for this team' and several days later he was traded to Colorado and they went on to win the Cup.
Montreal has yet to recover from that night. What have they done since ? Besides one fluky run a year or two ago.

Pat Roy coach of Montreal. I do want to see that.
Well they did win the Conference in 2007-2008. As for winning the cup, well no Canadian team won it since Montreal did back in 1993. If you think of it, among the 6 Canadian teams(not counting Winnipeg for obvious reasons), only Vancouver and maybe Ottawa did better than Montreal over the past 15 years or so.

Is Cunneyworth still the Montreal coach ?
If yes, it may not be for much longer. Another loss last night to Chicago(5-1), at least it was on the road. It is obvious Montreal is losing because the coach cannot speak french.

They are losing because they have a dumb french-speaking GM who traded for Kaberle

Maybe Toronto could use a Bilingual coach. They have much more success in the NHL on average, then English only speaking coaches.

OH ! I can hear the them now. 'fire da coach', I wonder if the owner will make another public statement where he throws Cunneyworth under the bus. 'Eh, don't worry he is not here for long'.
The coach cannot 'par la vu' which is why Price let four by him tonight, Winnipeg 4 Montreal 0.
... really, they lost 4-0 to Winnipeg ?

Quebec nationalists plan protest at Canadiens game

way to throw the new coach under the bus - what a bunch of whiners and cry babies :baby:
The dumbest part of this is, they did not even wait for Cunneyworth to coach a game. They were up in arms from the first minute. After the whine and the great media moment from the owner, I wanted Cunneyworth to win a few in a row and then I would sit back and watch how the fans, media and owner handle the egg on their faces.

Roy is the man for the job.

So the date set for the protest is on the January 7th Montreal home game, a HNIC Saturday night game on CBC of course, where fans will be given and asked to wave the Quebec flag.
On this night Tampa Bay will be the opponent. Funny that it should be Tampa Bay because of the whispers, well it has been reported on TV sports channels so I guess it is no longer whispers, that Guy Boucher(Tampa's current coach) will be the next coach of Montreal. Two things, one, is this not tampering ? Someone in the Montreal organization used a source to 'leak' this to the press ... please. Two, next coach ? It appears Cunneyworth(you can find him under the team bus) may not last to the end of the next month nevermind the rest of the season.

An actual protest over the coach because he cannot speak french ... you cannot write this stuff it is so funny.

Why would Guy Boucher even want to coach the Habs & all the problems that come with it? He is better off in Tampa.

Where is all the controversy for Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto who would never hire a French Canadian coach. After all, most, if not all their fans, would have no problems with such a policy. At least in Montreal, there are many fans who see the stupidity of it.

Well done hypocrites.

What is this shit you are pumping now ? Do you have clown make-up on, because you sure look like you are clowning ?

Would I rather have a born and raised Toronto guy coach the Leafs to a few Stanley Cups ? You bet.
However, if it meant the Leafs were going to win several Stanley Cups over the next decade or two I would not care if any of these guys were the coach ...
Claude Julien
Michel Therrian
Jacques Lemaire
Jacques Demers

or any other French-Canadian for that matter.
If the team vastly improved under a Quebecer, I could not care less, I would love it. Furthermore if you really believe that Toronto Maple Leaf fans would not except a French-Canadian you are mistaken.

The more you crow about the Toronto sports scene Maurice, the more I realize you are out of touch or just a desperate loser Montreal fan who cannot stand the Leafs having any success. I do believe it is the latter, rather then the former.

I think he's too much of a loose cannon to have a really successful career.
LOL that exactly why I would love to see him as the head coach for a couple of years. Roy in the middle of a 15 game losing skid would be interesting to say the least.

I see him as hockey's answer to Ozzie Guillen. Always have something to say.
