US dq. Canada wins bronze in 4x100m and DeGrasse wins a third medal!
Witnessed history as Bolt wins the triple triple.
Historic night at track.

And today, in less than 2 minutes the ladies will have to beat the odds and the crowd in trying for football bronze against Brasil.....Team Canada is digging in for the stretch run....Go Canada Go..!
Big whoop! This team was good enough to take the Gold Medal, if they had an Italian coach. Herdman got outcoached by his German counterpart and Sinclair couldn't adapt. They are responsible for Canada not winning the gold.

The silver by Japan in the 4x100 relay shows that 4 slower guys with fast transitions can keep up with anyone. This may revolutionize the relay as other teams look to emulate this. We may see the relay world records fall further even with Bolt retiring.

Any conspiracy theory on the DeBolt 200m race is bogus. They all ran for the gold and Bolt was the fastest on a slow wet track with some head wind. That's why they race. Otherwise they would just give the gold to the guy with the best PB.

Bolt is saying he may run the 400m in the next World Champs which should be interesting. Speed endurance is pretty tough, and he's going to turn 30 on Sunday. He is amazing so it should be fun to see what he does next.

The U.S. is appealing the 4 x 100.

Japan was not DQ because it happened on the straight and not on the curve.

Now the 4X100 relay is a bit of a crap shoot with disqualifications and dropped batons so Canada actually has a shot at gold there.

So if ADG wins a gold in relay, silver in 200m and bronze in 100m, well that's quite the performance. Men's track is generally considered higher profile than women's swim. We would have 2 worthy flag bearers.
ADG had an amazing meet and would be a worthy flag bearer but Penny O should get the nod, mainly due to her gold in the 100m free swim, one of the marquee events.

HOWEVER, now I read that the closing flag bearer is chosen by the peers. That's why it's not always the person with the most gold medals. This means that Sinclair is back in the mix to be chosen for scoring the bronze winning goal against the favored Brazilians.
Many well-deserving, yet Penny O is still hanging around in Rio while other swimmer have returned to Canada.

If you watch the video closely when Russell was discussing it in slow-mo with Bailey you can clearly see some other teams collect the batons after their taped markers (including Canada)... Something looks very sketchy in that video, not just from the Americans. :blue:

I believe Trin/Tob was also DQed for lane violation.

Japan got their batons super late too as per the video. I think Canada got their baton even further from the marker compared to the Americans (2nd last lane at the bottom of the screen).

The DQ was for getting the baton too EARLY before the transition zone. CBC F'd up the call again.

It was a very minor infraction but so was Canada's stepping on the line in the 2012 relay. Karma

Oh, in that case, if it was too early from the marker then the DQ calls were legit...

US loses appeal of the men's relay DQ. We keep the bronze. Yeah!

I actually think this may have been affected by the US ladies relay appeal. That was pretty iffy (incidental contact) and they got a very rare ruling to re-run and qualify for the finals which they of course won gold.

If the IAAF kept siding with US appeals, it would raise the suspicion of impartiality. On balance, it all worked out.

Cath Pendrel wins a bronze in the mountain bike for Canada's 22 medal, most since Atl in 1996. One more and it would be most ever in a non-boycotted games (re: LA '84).

Melissa Bishop just missed bronze by a meter. She ran such a great race. Plus she's so hot.

Mo Farrah of GB wins in 5km and 10km, defending both golds from London 2012. One of the greatest distance runners of our time.

Also great men's soccer gold match between Brazil and Germany. Tied 1-1, they went into shoot-outs. After the Brazilian goalie stopped the 5th PK, captain Neymar took the final kick. When he scored, he didn't "celebrate" as much as fell to his knees and just broke down crying. And all the brazilians pretty much did the same.

Recall soccer/football is more a religion than a sport there, and in the 2014 Rio World Cup, they were humiliated by Germany 7-1, which ripped their hearts out.

So this was redemption and recovery of their national pride. They may not have won many medals overall, but when they won the men's soccer gold, Olympics became a success for Brazil.

Much like a hockey gold for us in Vancouver.

A truly extraordinary event occurred, Eric Gillis finished 10th in the Marathon.

Considering the unforgiving nature of the competition and the blistering pace set by East Africans, Canadians have been left far behind. Our last Marathoner of note is Jerome Drayton in Montreal 1976. He still holds the Canadian record which he set in 1975. The Marathon is 47km (ouch), the distance between Marathon and Athens.

He should the flag barer in the closing ceremonies.

Ref I was thinking the same thing. Maybe born men who had surgery like Bruce Jenner? I do not think that Bishop as much of a chance in the future against those two. one of them is only 20.
