Can we block highways, roads and protest without getting charged?

How about we start protesting to the government or whoever to stop the Sri Lanka's protesting and blocking of our roads?

I bet if we did that we'd get arrested.

If your blocking roads and holding up other people. Then you deserve to be run over. Get the fuck off the road.
We don't give a shit what happen's to the Sri Lanken's.
Doesn't concern me one bit....or anyone else I've talk to about it.
Then why don't you do us all a favour and go downtown and run someone over? Or are you one of these "all talk no action" people?

Sure let try this. Round up all your friends and family, put them in a war zone, let a government systematically kill them over a period of days/weeks... If you want to protest then please do so...

Of course you may protest. The 'real Canadian' bit is just a little racist bias you threw in there. Look at Caledonia - the natives protested and the police allowed it. The difference between the Tamils, natives and you is that they actually care passionately enough to make a bold move. You lack the political will and organizational skills to mount any effective protest.

You'd just rather act all butthurt about it on the Internet, which is less effective political discourse, but also less effort for you.

The difference is that the natives are the only ones that can claim to be real Canadians. They must be laughing at our pathetic immigration debates.

No, I don't think they are. They have much bigger internal problems than worrying about us.

I see your point, though.

Ottawa BusDrivers were causing all kinds of traffic disruptions during there strike, by blocking streets and entrances. Police did nothing.

I have had government workers on strike block the entrance to the parking garage at the old old office I used to work at... they only occupied a couple of floors, but caused a handful of 1-2 hour delays over a one month period... police did nothing.

Actually, all bigots are idiots as well. It is a necessary precondition.
Idiot may be a strong term. But they are certainly not very bright.

I believe in the right to protest :: BUT I think the Govt should pass some kind og law that stops people from blocking roads ;; railways and freeways .
I believe the rail way blockade cost the country 3 million or some thing like that .
How much did it cost Toronto to have the people blocking the roads :??
If you want to protest ;; Fine ;; but do not stop an economy that is hurting already.
The train Blockade was close to me but did not effect my travel to work .
Caledonia is far from here and does little to effect me either .
And I am sure blocking a road in Toronto will not effect me much either .
But it cost some one a pile of money .. And most likely that some one can do nothing to change the native laws or the Tamil laws . The common folk going to work or a truck driver that is scraping by to make the payments are the ones put out,
All the police is there to prevent some one from running them over ; and causing an even bigger road blockage .

What is happening in Sir Lanka (SP??) is indubitably a tragedy
Are the Tamil Tigers a terrorist organization ?
I do not know for sure, but if they are on the watch list (& I believe there are stories they were involved in an assassination on a politic leader in India),... Where there is smoke there maybe fire

Do all Canadians have the right to protest? Absolutely!
That is what separates great countries from oppressive abusive ones & one of the reasons this is the best country in the world.

But, protest in a peaceful constructive manner that does not disrupt the economy, inconvenience the general population and increase the general tax burden by requiring excessive police manpower.

This was an ill-conceived plan that will backfire on the protesters.
While I am sympathetic to anyone who has loved ones in danger. I am not sympathetic to anyone who places their beliefs / cause above the general good of the population.

I know a lot of people aren't pleased with the tactics used here
I am also concerned that political / religious issues in a very unstable region of the world are being transported here.
(Welcome to Canada, please work hard, prosper and enjoy a good life, But leave your baggage behind you)

The other issue is in reality, there is precious little the Canadian government can do to alter the outcome in another sovereign country. Do you want the govt of France weighing in on Quebec sovereignty issue ?

So while I hope the killing overseas stops, STAY THE FUCK OFF THE FREEWAYS and do not disrupt my day
