NEW YORK (AP) - Adam "Pacman" Jones of Tennessee was suspended for the 2007 season Tuesday and Chris Henry of Cincinnati for eight games - both for numerous violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy

It's about time!
That's quite a severe reprimand. Goodell is really putting his foot down. Good for him.:D

Because he doesn't deserve it or because he plays for Chicago?

He hasnt been in as much trouble as many times as the other two. Plus the Bears suspended him for 2 weeks last year and he is now doing 4 months for his probation violation. Believe it or not when his situation first came up last year i thought the Bears were going to cut him then .

"It's about time!" ?

I don't understood why people would expect pro sports leagues to be a substitute for the justice system. If these guys are criminals, then they shouldn't be playing in the NFL, because they should be in prison. Otherwise, why should it be up to the NFL to make some kind of moral judgement about the behaviour and actions of their players that are unrelated to football?

If they were janitors, would they have been suspended from their jobs? The only vague justification I can think of would be the NFL claiming these guys hurt the image of the league and could be driving away advertisers.

These guys ARE hurting the image of the league. Not only that, they are putting people's lives at risk. If you were in a strip joint or any place for that matter, would you want one of these goons entering the establishment and opening up gunfire or causing a brawl, destroying property etc? These idiots think that just because they play for the NFL and make all kinds of money that they are safe from prosecution. Screw that. You wouldn't think the way you're thinking if it was a regular everday person committing these offenses, so why protect pro athletes? Not olny should these guys be suspended, they should be very heavily fined and forced to enter a counselling group.

And how does being suspended by the NFL stop them doing it again? It doesn't. If anything, maybe it gives them more free time to get into more trouble. I'm not defending these guys. Like I said, they should be in prison, where they won't be shooting at you or me.

Yes, I agree with you that they should be in prison and also that being suspended doesn't necessarily gaurantee that they wouldn't do it again. I was responding to your question of as to why would the NFL take measures to punish these offenders. Imo, not only should they be in prison, they should also be suspended, heavily fined and put into counselling. The NFL was just in doing what they felt was for the better interest of the league, even though the legal system didn't live up to it's responsibility in this matter.
