The Miami 3 might only last one year.
The NBA is looking at the NHL strike of 2004 -05 as a model for how they expect negotiations with the player's union to go next year.
A lot of owners are prepared to lose an entire season like the NHL did in order to secure a hard salary cap system and if they succeed Miami won't be able to keep 3 players like that under contract.

-------
Article:

LAS VEGAS -- When Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert predicted that his Cavaliers would win a championship before The King and his Miami Heat Superfriends in his open letter to LeBron James, the assertion seemed about as foolish as the letter itself.

Yet Gilbert's inexplicable confidence in making the statement -- and lack of confidence in the Heat's new star-studded core -- may have stemmed from a scenario that has fast become a hot topic among the league's owners: The notion that the Miami Three of James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh could be down to the Miami Two after just one season.

It is, in fact, a possibility.

Share With the league's collective bargaining agreement set to expire after next season, the owners are poised to go the way of the NHL and insist on a hard salary cap in the next deal that could be in the neighborhood of $45 million. If they are successful in that attempt -- likely after a lockout like the one endured by the NHL in 2004-05 -- the Heat and a number of other teams could be forced to release key players if their salaries surpassed the cap.

James, Wade and Bosh are reportedly scheduled to make a combined $43 million on their own next season with 10 percent annual raises thereafter, potentially meaning a nightmare scenario on South Beach. The Heat would hardly be alone in their despair, as the defending champion Lakers have approximately $80 million in committed salaries for the 2011-12 season and are slated to pay a combined $45 million for Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol alone.

The NBA currently has a soft salary cap, which includes numerous exceptions that allow teams to exceed the cap and a luxury tax threshold to deter teams from spending well beyond the cap. It is a system, however, that the owners are convinced no longer works in the current economic climate.

Commissioner David Stern claimed at the All-Star game in February that the owners are projected to lose approximately $400 million this season, with player's association director Billy Hunter later being quoted calling those projections "baloney." Considering the events that have transpired since, it's safe to say Hunter isn't done disputing Stern's position.

The announcement of the 2010-11 salary cap certainly didn't help Stern's argument, as the final figure of $58.044 million (with a $70.307 million luxury tax threshold) was not only higher than the $57.7 million cap figure from last season but approximately $2 million higher than was recently projected and far higher than low-end prediction of $50.3 million given by the league last year. What's more, the flurry of bloated free agent deals being given this month has players and agents alike rolling their eyes at the perceived disconnect between the words and deeds of the owners.

The NHL's negotiating history is worth analyzing, as the owners are clearly using it as a reference point for their position. That revelation is the next step in the process, as sources confirmed to FanHouse that the owners were recently given the Players Association's latest proposal and a miles-apart counter is to come.

In the case of the NHL, teams that lost players because of the new structure were given a week to buy out those contracts at a two-thirds rate. That money did not count against their cap, and those players could not re-sign with their current team. Additionally, all salaries on existing contracts were rolled back 24 percent.

All 30 teams will be represented at an owner's meeting Monday in Las Vegas, where they'll certainly discuss such matters. The meeting has been planned for months, although a counter proposal is not expected to be formalized during the session that is expected to last approximately three hours. It remains unclear which options the owners will consider that could help avoid the doomsday scenario and break-up of the Miami Three, whether it's grandfathering in contracts that were signed before the new CBA or perhaps implementing the hard cap in phases over numerous years to allow teams to make the necessary adjustments.

If not, however, Gilbert's seemingly-senseless prediction could wind up being right after all.

I honestly think that when you mention the 3 names Bosh Wade and James ... One name doesn't exactly belong and that is Bosh ... Heck James can play the PF position
and so his importance is even less ... Question what is James position ??? Wade is a SG ... Can James be a PG ???
On the surface you might be right about Bosh, but the more I read about it, it suggest both Wade and James wanted Bosh originally for themselves as a central piece for their team respectively.
If Bosh had agreed and signed with Cleveland to play with James, the whole world not boo him as much.

These 3 were going to play together ... All outher reports Bosh going here , Wade going somewhere , James staying were all smoke screens ... They all signed 3 year contracts at the same time ... Something no other Max player has ever done after rookie contract was finished ..

I could be wrong but that is how it came out in the press conference ... Bosh even fucked up ... He said this has been months
in the planing ... Opps sorry Days in the planning ... He screwed up with that slip up and that is when owners were crying colusion ...
Months? heck they probably talked about it for years!....but, does that count?, lol. Who knows what really transpire between their conversations and I'm sure players talk shit about playing together all the time and half the time it never happens. Things/options changes all the time and it just so happen this worked out.

That intevriew should have came with a barf bag ... Do those 3 acutually believe their lies ... 3 of the most respected players in the NBA just threw their reputation in the garbage with the constant bullshit ...
I agree it was basically BS, but you didn't expect him to say Toronto was crap and I never considered resigning. I watched it on Sport channel and the interviewers were ready to upchuck.
What do you think or expect him to say?

I do not believe he, Bosh, ever truly considered resigning in Toronto. I would have respected him at least a bit if he just came out when NBA FA began and said "I am going where I think I have the best chance to win".

Guyroch, I do not feel Wade belongs in that group, after all he did resign with his team.

What bothers me most is the way Bosh conducted himself. The messaging, updating on where and who is courting him today, then the scream when he was introduced with the other two in Heat uniforms was the final stone.

Dawgger, I think that is what he did, in a way, in the manner in which Bosh was acting since the end of the season. He was dumping on this city.
When Miami comes into town to play I hope the fans and media ignore him. No boos, no cheers, no signs, just treat him like any other player. I do not believe this will happen mind you, but I can hope.

I hold nothing against Bosh. He did what he had to do, and i'm sure if anyone else was in the same position i would most guarantee you would do the same. He played with his heart everygame in his 7 years with us.
Whether he did it the right way or not he will always be remebered here in T.O.

I have given 7 years to the Raptors but had the opportunity to play with James and Wade and I couldn't turn that opportunity down ... We are all 3 friends and have created a bond when we played for our country and the Heat with all their dealings created a situation where we can all play with earch other ... I am not leaving Toronto to play for Heat .. I am leaving the Raptors roster to play with James and Wade ...
I could have lived with that.

Again, it is the way in which he went about it. He spit in the face of the Raptors, city of Toronto and the paying fans. Acting like a kid who just got out of school for the summer.

Look at Roy Halladay. Do you think he will be booed when Philly comes to town ... not a chance. He will likely get a standing ovation.

I dunno...thoughout sports history, not many athletes will come out that open and say I want to leave this city cuz..blah, blah, blah. So I'm not really surprised with either James or Bosh either. Doesn't mean I'm happy about it, but I almost expect that. I'm sure Bosh had his desires to play with so and so years ago, but how can he predict the outcome of free agency 2 or 3 years previous or even few months ago for that matter so he's not gonna say anything that might come back and haunt him. Lets say Bosh had spoken to BC prior to trading deadline he will leave TO end of the year thereby trading him away immediately when they had a chance....do you really think a) the Raps would receive good value in return b4 trading deadine? and b) the fans would understand and feel better? I can tell you one thing...that would be like sending a bad vibe within the team and fans will critiize Bosh or BC for giving up....

Something still annoys me about Bosh. It's not that he left, it's just the stink of his desperation to be "cool"
:)
Tonight Chris Bosh returns to Toronto as a member of the Miami Heat.
I hope the Raptor fans will show more class than then what the Cav's fans did on James return to Cleveland.
Bosh was a solid player with the Raps. He left, not because of money , or a dislike for the city, or its people, but
because he wanted to play for a team that had a chance of winning.
Unlike Carter, he never quit on the team, he just moved on. I hope he receives a warm welcome during the introductions.
Once the game begins, he's a member of the Heat and should be treated as any other opponent is.
Rap fans don't be stupid, don't embarass yourselves, the team, or the city. Make him wish he had stayed by being classy!

Exactly. I hope Bosh gets trashed beyond belief.

He could walked away with class instead he showed he is a total douche.
