The Leafs didn’t fire him. His contract expires on June 30/2023 and the Leafs have decided not to renew it.
I said at the time that it could be the biggest mistake that Shanahan could make as the president and as it turned out, five precious years of the promising young core are wasted due to Dubas’s incompetence to supply the other necessary supporting pieces to make this team a serious contender. IMO this team now is weaker than the one he inherited.

On the other hand, the MLSE hired Shanahan in 2014. That's almost a decade of failure. I would never give a GM more than 3-4 seasons. Of course the Leafs have no culture of excellence nor are in any rush to win. Fuck'em blue.
