Hero: Someone who performs notable acts at great personal sacrifices for the benefit of others.
Then you should be pleased he was convicted. After all, the conviction (and resulting sentence) is what provides the "great personal sacrifices" without which Manning would not be a hero. ...

Your viewpoint is consistently anti-American. Often thoughtlessly so.
Preposterous. My position is very pro American. I believe strongly in the core ideals in which the nation was founded and so I value heroes like Manning who holdb the government to account when it turns away from those values.

Bradley "Benedict Arnold" Manning. At least Arnold lost one of his legs in battle while serving his country before he turned.

Every proud British subject knows that Benedict Arnold was a great hero and loyal servant to his King! The treasonous Americans who revolted against His Majesty have been most unkind to this great man.

there should be consistency -- bush and cheny put a person in danger. Manley did not.
Right. So you are not saying that Manning should get a walk, rather that Bush and Cheny, if the evidence supports, should be punished.

You won't get an argument from me.

"In memory of the "most brilliant soldier" of the
Continental Army who was desperately wounded
on this spot the sally port of BORGOYNES GREAT
WESTERN REDOUBT 7th October, 1777
winning for his countrymen the decisive battle of
the American Revolution and for himself the rank
of Major General."

No one is ever going to describe Bradley Manning as a 'most brilliant soldier.'

You should actually read some history. He was a loyal American until he was passed over for promotion and accused of corruption (granted the corruption charge was stupid since he was using his own money to support the cause).

That is just an American smear of this great man's name!

Is this simplistic, or is this simplistic!

The actions of Major General Arnold at the Battle of Saratoga, were essential to the American victory, yet Major General Gates denied him any share of the credit. Then having been terribly wounded and in constant pain, having been appointed military governor of Philadelphia following the British evacuation, Joseph Reed, the President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania (and honestly a rather unpleasant man) made his life a living Hell.

General Sir Henry Clinton, KB, never really trusted him, not least because of his role in urging Major John André Clinton's trusted aide to wear civilian clothing.

Real history is always more interesting and complex than Jingoism.

True.

Sure. He made a mistake early on by siding with the traitors but his conscience got the better of him and he returned to loyal service.
He was quite unpopular in New Brunswick after the war before he removed to Great Britain.
