I agree. I think that taking him in was a wonderful humanitarian gesture on their part.
Obviously, and sadly, Fischer was nuts, but it's what you do with your life, in spite of your handicaps, that matters. He left behind a great legacy of games played.
There's a quote that 'if there is no chess in the next world, I would rather complete extinction, check and checkmate!' I think Fischer would have been in agreement.
